MLS Matchday 13 Preview and Free Picks

Last Updated on May 13, 2024 2:54 pm by Erwin Noguera

We are walking right into the 13th matchday of the MLS regular season with a remarkable fight at the top of both conferences, as no team can sleep quietly.

The eastern side remains under the lead of an Inter Miami team that seems unstoppable due to the excellent synergy between their big star, Messi, and the talent all over the rest of the team, while Cincinnati is tailing them 3 points behind, trying to catch up.

The Western Conference has a Real Salt Lake who is trying to get comfortable at the lead, but currently only sports a two points lead ahead of Minnesota and LA Galaxy.

We are eager to see how the state rivalry in Florida will be renewed on Wednesday when Orlando City welcomes Inter Miami to Inter and Co Stadium for another MLS clash.

The Lions ended a three-match winless run over the weekend, claiming a narrow 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Union, while the Herons won for a fifth successive time in this competition, defeating CF Montreal 3-2.

Since giving up three goals to Minnesota United in early March, the Lions have conceded a goal or fewer in three of their previous four encounters on home soil. If they lose on Wednesday, it will mark the first time that they suffered three successive defeats at home in this competition since the end of 2022.

Inter Miami’s resilience is showing, as it seems to take a goal against to wake up their attack, but when they do, they have been virtually impossible to slow down, scoring a league-high 35 goals, 12 more than the next-highest side in MLS (Los Angeles Galaxy).

They have outscored the Lions 9-2 in their previous three meetings in all competitions but have yet to win an away match against them, but we believe this might be the match in which they do so.

Orlando City vs. Inter Miami Betting Pick: Inter Miami

Cincinnati approaches this fixture after winning 2-1 in the MLS against Columbus. Kevin Kelsy and Luciano Acosta scored for them at Lower.com Field.

Atlanta’s last game was a 3-2 loss against D.C. United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Thiago Almada scored two times in this MLS match, with Atlanta having seven corners in total and three shots on target.

FC Cincinnati is on course for win number five in a row as they take on Atlanta United at the TQL Stadium. They have been in very fine form lately, and are regarded as huge favorites to beat Atlanta United. For the latter, they have struggled for most parts of the season. At the moment, they are desperately searching for a win after failing to do so in their last five games in a row.

We believe Atlanta United will be struggling to tryto even draw the match in this encounter, so expect Cincinnati to get the three points in this clash.

Cincinnati vs. Atlanta United Betting Pick: Cincinnati

Minnesota United is currently in second place in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer. However, they do have two postponed games yet to be played.

This means that the team is way stronger than the points show, as they have six possible points to be claimed after those two extra matches take place, and they have showcased some great performances.

LA Galaxy comes from a draw with the current conference leaders, but Minnesota is coming in from a win and a nice rest in between matches, so we will likely be seeing another strong performance for the hosts.

Minnesota vs. LA Galaxy Betting Pick: Minnesota

MLS Matchday 13: Real Salt Lake vs. Seattle Sounders

The hosts are unbeaten in their last eight league matches, while the visitors have seen a recent upturn in form with two wins and a draw from their last three.

An unexpected loss to New Mexico United in the US Open Cup had the potential to disrupt their season, especially with the following match pitting them up against third-placed LA Galaxy. However, a 2-2 draw kept them top of the table.

Salt Lake will now return to their home base hoping to pick up a needed victory and put an end to any lengthy winless streak from potentially developing.

Seattle is coming in hot, as back-to-back away triumphs over Philadelphia and Portland Timbers have seen them record consecutive victories on the road for the first time since April last year.

They have not won at the Rio Tinto Stadium since a penalty victory in the US Open Cup in June 2016, leaving this as a huge challenge if they are to extend their winning run to three matches for the first time since July-August 2021.

While Salt Lake’s form has seen a slight dip in recent outings Seattle’s has massively improved ahead of this one, leading us to believe that the visitors will manage to snatch a point from their trip to face the league leaders.
