In the West, we find a Canadian team and a debutant. The Vancouver Whitecaps, champions of Canada, will face Los Angeles FC, led by Son, while San Diego FC continues its Cinderella story and will host Minnesota United.

Meanwhile, in the East, thePhiladelphia Union, the best team of the regular season, will face NYC, the lowest-ranked team among those advancing to this stage based on the standings. The other matchup will feature Inter Miami, with Lionel Messi and company, visiting Cincinnati.

The Vancouver Whitecaps are having a great season. They tied San Diego for first place in the Western Conference and just eliminated Dallas in two games. Thomas Müller has added valuable experience to a team coming off a championship run in Canada. Brian White, the team’s top scorer, is injured.

Los Angeles finished third in the West. They defeated Austin in both games of the previous series, with a brace from Bouanga and a goal from Son in the second match, the team’s two star players. This year, they were unable to beat the Canadians in their two meetings.

San Diego FC were the big surprise of the season, making their MLS debut and winning the Western Conference with 63 points. They won both home games and lost on penalties on the road against Portland. They were a bad home club, winning seven games, drawing five, and losing five.

Minnesota United is the only team in the semifinals that did not win in regulation time. They won twice on penalties at home against the Seattle Sounders.
