The 2025 Brasileirรฃo season has come to an end, bringing intense battles across the table and ultimately crowning Flamengo as champions after a thrilling title race with Palmeiras.

It was a two-front battle, as Flamengo and Palmeiras were competing not only for the league title but also for the Copa Libertadores, having met in the final. The โ€˜Mengรฃoโ€™ ended up winning both in the same week: a 1โ€“0 victory on November 29 in the Libertadores, and another 1โ€“0 win over Cearรก on December 3 in Matchday 37โ€”the penultimate roundโ€”which made them unreachable for the โ€˜Verdรฃoโ€™.

Both clubs were the best throughout the year. Cruzeiro tried to keep up early on and even got within nine points of Flamengo, but ultimately it was a two-team race. Palmeiras collapsed in early November after losing to Mirassol (2โ€“1) in Round 33 and to Santos (1โ€“0) in Round 34, allowing Flamengo to overtake themโ€”a position they never regained. It was a terrible stretch for the Paulista side, who earned just two of 15 possible points, including two scoreless draws at home.

For Abel Ferreiraโ€™s team, losing Estรชvรฃo to Chelsea mid-season took a toll, as did Wevertonโ€™s injury in mid-October. With Carlos Miguel in goal, the team won four matches, drew three, and lost five.

With this title, the โ€˜Mengรฃoโ€™ earned its eighth league championship, tying Santos and standing second in the all-time list behind Palmeiras (13). Itโ€™s worth noting that some fans consider it Flamengoโ€™s ninth title, but, due to historical controversy over the 1987 championship, the Brazilian Football Confederation does not officially recognize itโ€”though that is a separate debate.

It was a great year overall for Flamengo under manager Filipe Luรญs, as they also won the Supercopa do Brasil and the Campeonato Carioca.

Flamengo finished the league with 79 points, Palmeiras came second with 76, and Cruzeiro closed out the podium with 70.

International Competitions

In addition to the finalists, Cruzeiro, Fluminense, and the surprising Mirassol qualified for the Copa Libertadores, while Botafogo and Bahia will enter the preliminary round. Mirassolโ€™s achievement is extraordinary. This year marked their first-ever season in the top divisionโ€”coinciding with their 100th anniversaryโ€”and instead of fighting relegation as everybody expected, they finished among the top teams and earned their first international berth, all while going unbeaten at home (12 wins and seven draws).

For the Copa Sudamericana, the qualifiers are Sรฃo Paulo, Grรชmio, RB Bragantino, Atlรฉtico Mineiro, Santos, and Corinthians.

Brasileirรฃo Season 2025: Relegation

The four relegated teams are Sport and Juventude, who had already been confirmed weeks ago, and this weekend they were joined by Fortaleza and Cearรก. Both depended on themselves but lost their matches. While the โ€˜Tricolorโ€™ fell 4โ€“2 to Botafogo, the โ€˜Vozรฃoโ€™ were beaten 1โ€“3 at home by Palmeiras.

Among those who survived are Internacionalโ€”who escaped the relegation zone on the final day after beating RB Bragantino 3โ€“1โ€”Vitรณria, who defeated Sรฃo Paulo 1โ€“0, and Santos, who not only stayed up but also qualified for the Sudamericana.

It was a difficult season for the โ€˜Peixeโ€™, but they finished strong with a six-match unbeaten streak, winning the last three by 3โ€“0 and even getting a Neymar hat-trick against Juventude on Matchday 37 despite the star playing through injury. The opposite happened to Vasco, who went from fighting for a Copa Libertadores berth to losing everything after collecting only 3 of 24 points, with one win and seven losses.

Brasileirรฃo Season 2025: Individual Awards

Kaio Jorge finished as the leagueโ€™s top scorer. The Cruzeiro forward netted 21 goals in 33 matches, becoming the clubโ€™s first league top scorer since Tostรฃo in 1970. Thanks to his great season, the 23-year-old made his debut on the Brazil national team in September during the World Cup qualifiers.

The leagueโ€™s top assist provider was Giorgian De Arrascaeta. The Uruguayanโ€”arguably the best player in the Brasileirรฃoโ€”registered 14 assists, adding to his 18 goals for a total of 32 G+A, surpassing Kaio Jorgeโ€™s 29.

Brasileirรฃo Season 2025: Top Transfers

The Brasileirรฃo has become known in recent years for attracting major talents from Europe, not only veterans but players in their prime or approaching it.

In terms of value and impact, Vitor Roqueโ€™s arrival at Palmeiras was the largest signing. The โ€˜Verdรฃoโ€™ paid nearly $30 million to Barcelona for the 20-year-old striker. Although he struggled early, he ended up scoring 20 goals and providing five assists across the league and Libertadores.

Of the headline signings, he was the only one who arrived at the start of the season; the rest joined between June and August. Flamengo completed two crucial signings: Samuel Lino and Jorge Carrascal. They paid $25.5 million to Atlรฉtico Madrid for Lino and $13.9 million to Dynamo Moscow for Carrascal. Lino scored the title-winning goal from a Carrascal assist.

Another high-profile arrival was Neymar, who came on a free transfer from Al Hilal after a long injury spell. Although widely criticized and far from his best form, he ended up being crucial at the end, scoring five goals and providing one assist in the final four matches.

Brasileirรฃo Season 2025: Statistics

The team with the most goals scored, and the fewest conceded, was Flamengo: 78 scored, 27 conceded. At the opposite extreme was Sport, with 28 scored and 75 concededโ€”first and last in the table, respectively. Also, Flamengo and Mirassol finished the season unbeaten at home.

Hulk scored the most free-kick goals (4), while Alan Patrick and Reinaldo converted the most penalties (6 each, missing one each).

Although not the top scorer, Pedro had the best goals-per-minute rate, averaging a goal every 88 minutes. He scored 12 goals in 21 matches after returning from last seasonโ€™s long injury, before getting hurt again in late October.

Botafogo defender Alexander Barboza received the most yellow cards (14), while eight players were sent off twice.

Among goalkeepers, Agustรญn Rossi recorded 18 clean sheets with a rate of 0.6 goals conceded per match. Meanwhile, Sport goalkeeper Gabriel Vasconcelos conceded an average of two goals per match.
