LaLiga Matchday 19: Getafe vs. Real Sociedad

A last-gasp goal gave Real Sociedad a 1–2 away victory over Getafe when it looked like the win was slipping away.

The Basque side were the favorites and tried to take control from the start, and in the 36th minute, they opened the scoring with a fine strike from the edge of the box by Brais Méndez.

There were a few situations in each penalty area without much danger until the 90th minute, when Juanmi made it 1–1 with a shot from inside the box.

It seemed the match would end level, but in the final minute of stoppage time, at 90+6, Venezuelan Jon Aramburu won a header from a corner kick and, after a poor clearance by David Soria, made it 1–2.

With this victory, Real Sociedad moved up to 11th place with 21 points, overtaking Getafe, who are now 12th with the same number of points but trailing on head-to-head results.

LaLiga Matchday 19: Real Oviedo vs. Real Betis

Real Oviedo picked up a valuable point in the relegation battle after drawing 1–1 at home against Real Betis, a result that complicated the visitors’ situation.

The ‘Verdiblancos’ were clearly the better side and hit the post twice through Cucho Hernández, while Pablo Fornals also had a great chance that was saved by goalkeeper Aarón Escandell. Despite this, it was the home side that took the lead in the 64th minute with a superb low, long-range cross-shot from Ilyas Chaira.

Time kept passing, and the Sevilla side could not find the equalizer until Giovanni Lo Celso appeared in the 83rd minute with a slight header that redirected Antony’s cross to make it 1–1, which proved to be the final score.

This result benefits neither team, as Oviedo remain bottom with 13 points, five away from safety, while Betis sit sixth with 29 points, now level with Celta and ahead only on goal difference.

The big winner of the weekend was Villarreal, who defeated Alavés 3–1 and climbed to third place in the standings.

There were four goals, all in the second half. Early after the break, in the 49th minute, Alberto Moleiro picked up a loose ball and from the edge of the box curled a stunning shot into the far top corner for a spectacular goal.

Six minutes later, it was Gerard Moreno’s turn, firing a first-time effort, also from the edge of the area, after a clearance by the goalkeeper.

In the 75th minute, Georges Mikautadze got on the scoresheet, delicately chipping the goalkeeper after a brilliant move and an assist from Moleiro.

Alavés pulled one back in the 85th minute through Toni Martínez with a fine finish following a mistake in the ‘Submarino Amarillo’ buildup, but it was not enough, and they dropped to 16th place with 19 points, two above the relegation zone.

Villarreal, meanwhile, are now third with 41 points, two clear of Atlético Madrid and four behind second-placed Real Madrid, while also having a game in hand against 19th-placed Levante.

LaLiga Matchday 19: Sevilla vs. Celta

In the match that closed Matchday 19 of LaLiga on Monday, Celta earned a very important 0–1 away victory over Sevilla.

The Vigo side was the better team and created the most chances, turning Odysseas Vlachodimos into the standout performer, as he produced several excellent saves, including a low stop on Ilaix Moriba.

The only way to break the Greek goalkeeper’s resistance was from the penalty spot.
