Matchday 3 of the Clausura MX has come to an end, leaving Chivas as the sole leaders with a perfect record, while three other teams remain unbeaten.

Guadalajara is surprising everyone at the start of the tournament, and this time defeated Querétaro 2–1.

Among the unbeaten sides are two-time champions Toluca, who played to a scoreless draw away at Tigres, as well as Tijuana and Pumas, who both drew at home against San Luis and León, respectively.

In what was one of the most interesting matchups of the weekend, Pachuca and América finished in a boring goalless draw, while the biggest rout came from Monterrey, who crushed Mazatlán 1–5 on the road.

There were two home wins, two away wins, and five draws.

Liga MX Clausura Matchday 3 Games

Liga MX Matchday 3: Guadalajara vs. Querétaro

The tournament could not have started any better for Guadalajara, who defeated Querétaro 2–1 and holds a perfect record with three wins from three matches.

After several chances, Chivas finally took the lead in the 35th minute when Armando González headed in a cross from Daniel Aguirre to score his second goal of the tournament, both of them coming at home.

Querétaro had a couple of opportunities late in the first half and early in the second, but failed to capitalize. The side from Jalisco extended their lead in the 61st minute with a goal from Roberto Alvarado. ‘Piojo’ struck it first time off a pass from Richard Ledezma to make it 2–0.

The ‘Gallos Blancos’ pulled one back in the 81st minute through Mateo Coronel after a rebound off goalkeeper Raúl Rangel, marking the first goal Guadalajara has conceded in the tournament.

The score did not change again, and Chivas secured the win, sitting alone at the top of the Clausura MX with a perfect 9 out of 9. Querétaro, meanwhile, is 16th with just one point.

Liga MX Matchday 3: Tigres vs. Toluca

In one of the most anticipated matchups of the weekend, a rematch of the most recent final, Tigres and Toluca played to a scoreless draw in Monterrey.

It was a match with a few clear chances but, above all, very stop-start, as there were 43 fouls, six yellow cards, plus two more shown to Juan José Purata, who was sent off in the 76th minute.

Angulo had a powerful shot around the 36th minute that struck the post, the best chance in a match in which the ‘Diablos Rojos’ were the better side. However, in stoppage time at 90+1’, Juan Brunetta scored a stunning goal from near midfield that was ruled out for a prior foul—one that was highly debatable and sparked plenty of controversy.

In the end, the score remained unchanged, leaving Toluca in second place with seven points, while Tigres sit 11th with four points.

Liga MX Matchday 3: Tijuana vs. San Luis

Tijuana let a great opportunity slip away and ended up drawing 1–1 at home against Atlético San Luis with a late goal.

Xolos, one of the unbeaten teams, took the lead in the 18th minute after a shot by Gilberto Mora was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper, but the rebound fell to Adonis Preciado, who simply tapped the ball in.

Tijuana were the better side, but failed to put the match away, and San Luis took advantage to equalize on the final play. In the 90+4 minute, a cross from Juan Manuel Sanabria was finished right-footed by Fidel Barajas to make it 1–1 and score his first professional league goal at 19 years old, as he already had another one in the U.S. Open Cup with Real Salt Lake.

With this draw, Xolos sit sixth with five points after one win and two draws, while Atlético are eighth with four points following one win, one draw, and one loss.

Liga MX Matchday 3: Pachuca vs. América

Two teams that have left much to be desired at the start of the tournament are Pachuca and América, who played to a dull 0–0 draw.

It was a match with few chances, flat and uneventful, in which neither side was able to hurt the other. The only opportunity worth mentioning was a free kick by Cristian Borja that was saved by the goalkeeper.

With this draw, the ‘Tuzos’ sit 12th with four points, while the ‘Águilas’ are 15th with two points, making them one of only four teams yet to win and the only one that has failed to score.
