Stephanie Gilmore is a world-historical surfer who was born on January 29, 1988, in Murwillumbah, Australia. Stephanie started surfing at age 10 on the beautiful beaches of Coolangatta. In 2003, at 13 years old, Stephanie won her first title in the Junior category of New South Wales, and the next year she won the junior national.
From a very young age, Gilmore knew she wanted to invest her time and energy into her surfing career. At the age of 17, she was already a reserve for the Roxy Pro Gold Coast, and because of this, she managed to get her first victory in an international competition in 2005 when she defeated Sofia Mulanovich. Then, as a rookie, she began participating in the 2007 ASP World Tour, and to a greater surprise, that same year she won her first world title. Since then, Stephanie Gilmore has been an unstoppable surfer and undoubtedly a strong competitor in the world of surfing.
Stephanie Gilmore’s Championship Tour Experience
Gilmore became invincible after her professional debut. She repeated the world title in 2008, 2009, and 2010, making history in women’s surfing. After a series of injuries for 2 years, Gilmore returned in 2012 and was once again crowned as world champion. In 2013, the injuries returned, causing her to withdraw from competition for a second time. But when she was fully recovered in 2014, she won the world title, as well as the Swatch Women’s Pro.In 2017, Gilmore moved to Los Angeles, seeking new paths in her career. She won the Roxy Pro Gold, and this was enough for her to win her sixth world title. In 2018 she came out on top again, and managed to win her seventh and last world title.
