CONCACAF Champions League

This Wednesday, May 5, Monterrey will host Columbus Crew for the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-finals at the BBVA Bancomer Stadium. This match will define one of the direct passes to the semi-finals in Mexico, and it will be broadcast on Fox Sport and TUDN at 10:30 a.m.

How Did Monterrey Get Here

The four-time CONCACAF Champions have faced MLS opponents 13 times, in which they have an excellent record of 9 wins, 2 draws, and 2 defeats. Of those two defeats, only one was away, and it was in the group stage of the 2011-12 edition of the CONCACAF Champions League. In this match, Seattle Sounders handed the first defeat to Monterrey with a score of 0-1 for the Americans.

For this edition of the CONCACAF Champions League, Monterrey, coached by Javier Aguirre, easily overcame Atletico Pantoja of the Dominican Republic. They had two convincing victories that resulted in an overall score of 6-1, conceding the only goal against the home team.

How Did Columbus Crew Get Here

The 2020 MLS Cup champion team arrives to the quarter-final match with seven matches played against Liga MX teams and a record of one win, two draws, and four defeats. This is only their second experience against a Mexican team in the knockout stage. The first was against Toluca in  the 2009-10 edition when they were eliminated with a 5-4 aggregate score.

Columbus reaches the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions League leaving the Nicaraguan Club Real Estelí. In this match, they had a resounding score of 5 goals to zero, thus reaching this stage without conceding any goals in this final phase.
