Barcelona, who already had a small stumble, will host a combative Valencia, while all the spotlight will be on the clash between Atlético Madrid and Villarreal.

Real Sociedad haven’t had a good start to the season, drawing their first two matches against Valencia (1-1) and Espanyol (2-2), and then losing to Real Oviedo (1-0). They have conceded in every game and have only won one of their last 11 official matches. On August 31, they completed the signings of Yangel Herrera and Carlos Soler; however, the Venezuelan picked up an injury a few days earlier and will be out for several weeks.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are top of the table with a perfect record, but they haven’t been convincing. Xabi Alonso’s side beat Osasuna (1-0) with a controversial finish, Real Oviedo (0-3) with a brilliant late display from Vinicius, and most recently Mallorca (2-1). The absence of Jude Bellingham through injury has affected their midfield play, but Kylian Mbappé is on fire and leads the scoring charts with three goals.

Athletic Bilbao have been one of the surprises at the start of the season. The ‘Rojiblancos’ have a perfect record, beating Sevilla (3-2), Rayo Vallecano (1-0), and Real Betis (1-2), all by the narrowest of margins. They haven’t lost at home to this opponent since 2005, collecting five wins and three draws in league play since then.
Alavés, meanwhile, will be aiming to avoid relegation, and they’re not doing badly. They won their opener, a 2-1 home victory over Levante with a Nahuel Tenaglia goal in the 90+2. Then they lost away to Real Betis (1-0) but surprised many by earning a draw against Atlético Madrid (1-1). Coach Eduardo Coudet has a strong midfield thanks to reinforcements Carles Aleñá and Denis Suárez, and it will be interesting to see how these players influence their teammates.
Athletic vs. Alavés Betting Pick: Athletic

The big disappointment at the start of the season has been Atlético Madrid. Despite keeping their key players and reinforcing with some strong signings, they have yet to win. They lost to Espanyol (2-1), drew at home with Elche (1-1), and then also drew with Alavés (1-1). Fans are starting to wonder if it’s time to move on from Cholo Simeone and bring in a new coach. Their latest signing was Nicolás González, who arrived on loan from Juventus and has yet to make his debut.
On the other hand, Villarreal have been a pleasant surprise. They sit third in the table with seven points after beating Real Oviedo (2-0) and Girona (5-0) at home, and drawing away at Celta (1-1) after conceding a goal in the 90+4 minute. With eight goals scored and just one conceded, they have both the best attack and best defense in the league. In addition, Tajon Buchanan, who scored a hat-trick, is the top scorer in the competition alongside Mbappé and Adrián Liso.

We saw Barcelona wobble but not stumble—until their last match. They first beat Mallorca 0-3 in a game with two red cards, then Levante 2-3 with an own goal in stoppage time. But then Rayo Vallecano stopped them, holding them to a 1-1 draw thanks to a penalty goal from Lamine Yamal. Now they’ll play at home, but at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, the Barca B stadium, with a capacity of just 6,000 spectators.
Valencia started the tournament poorly, drawing 1-1 at home with Real Sociedad and then losing 1-0 away to Osasuna. In their most recent match, they thrashed Getafe 3-0, and coach Carlos Corberán hopes this will mark their turnaround. The ‘Murciélagos’ will have José Luis Gayá back after serving his suspension, as well as their new striker, Argentine Lucas Beltrán.
