Matchday 14 of the Apertura MX 2023 gave the two best teams, Club América and Tigres, two high-flying matches, and they solved them both with beatings.

The ‘Águilas’ had to visit an inspired Rayados de Monterrey and won with a landslide, while the ‘Felinos’ repeated the same dose against Chivas de Guadalajara at the Akron stadium, in a repeat of the last final. 

For their part, Pumas were surprised away from home and lost on their visit to the last team in the standings, Necaxa.

Toluca made their home ground a fortress, overcoming an Atlético San Luis team that had been falling apart after a great start.

Pumas was coming off the back of a defeat and had a great opportunity to recover, but this time they were beaten 1-0 in their visit to Necaxa, dropping to sixth place with 21 points.

The ‘Rayos’ took advantage of the red card of César Huertas in the 13th minute and went in search of the victory, which came in the 74th minute, with a right-footed mid-distance shot by Braian Samudio to the right post of goalkeeper Julio José González.

Necaxa remains in last place with 11 points but snapped a three-game losing streak. Pumas has lost three of its last five matches.

Chivas had gone three matches unbeaten, but that did not slow down Tigres’ offensive momentum, who thrashed them 4-0 in Guadalajara and are now second with 28 points and the second-best offense in the league with 30 goals.

Nicolás Ibáñez quickly surprised Guadalajara with two goals at 13′ and 53′. The first came after an assist from Luis Quiñones in the box, and he finished off the ball unmarked, while the second was a similar dose, after a shot from the penalty spot following a pass from Quiñones.

Diego Lainez added the third at 86′ with a mid-range shot, and Marcelo Flores finished off the game at 90+6′ with a cross-shot in the area. 

The ‘Rebaño’ dropped to seventh place with 21 points and is the worst defense among the eight best teams in the Liga MX, with 20 conversions conceded.

América is the best team in Liga MX and confirmed this with a 3-0 away win over Rayados de Monterrey, consolidating its position at the top of the table with 33 points.

Only two minutes had passed, and the Uruguayan Jonathan Rodríguez had already got on the scoreboard with an assist from Henry Martin. The same attacker repeated with a shot to the near post at 25′. Alejandro Zendejas scored the final goal at 32′, after a pass in the area from Martin. 

The ‘Águilas’ are the best offensive team, with 33 goals in 14 matches. For their part, Rayados is third with 23 points and only 19 goals scored, the lowest amount in the top 8 teams, and only León (16) have less taking into account the first 12 teams in the tournament.

Toluca bounced back at home after the defeat on the last matchday and overcame Atlético San Luis, a direct rival for access to the quarterfinals of Liga MX, 3-1.

Despite a lack of offensive players, the team from the Nemesio Diez stadium only needed 18 minutes to take the lead with Abraham Vargas, after an assist from Jean Meneses. Jesús Angulo added the second at 69′ and, although Ángel Zaldívar scored the goal for San Luis at 83′, Angulo sealed the score at 90+3′ with a cross-shot in the area.

The ‘Diablos’ moved up to fifth place with their streak of only one defeat in the last five matches, while San Luis has one more unit, but with two defeats in a row.
