Monterrey vs. Tigres: Liguilla Quarterfinals Preview

Monterrey vs. Tigres

We are ready to go on the 2nd leg of the quarterfinals in the Liguilla MX, as the teams go to get the job done and see who will be making it into the semifinals shortly. We got some remarkable results in the first leg, but only one team got more than a one-goal advantage.

Most of the first-leg matches gave one of the teams a small lead, but it places the opponents against a wall as the stakes are high. This is one of those series, as Monterrey now hosts the clash with the aggregate score in favor against Tigres and wants to seal its pass to the semifinals in the Clausura MX 2024.

When:

Sunday, May 12th at 11:10 PM ET at the BBVA

Moneyline odds:

Monterrey 2.11

Tigres 3.275

Draw Offs:

3.5

Why Bet on Monterrey?

Monterrey ended the previous phase in the spotlight, as even though they did lead the scoreboard for a long time during the regular season, their close was far from expected. They only got one win in the last five games.

However, that is a thing of the past. Rayados managed to get the best of Tigres at the Universitario Stadium by 2-1. Sergio Canales landed the first goal in the 28th minute, and Maximiliano Mesa got the 2nd to regain the lead in the 48th minute. The felines were unable to recover from this early hit at the second-half start.

Now, the team is looking to get the job done at home and give their crowd a reason to celebrate as they make their way to the semifinals. Notwithstanding, it’s important to remember that their luck with their local rivals has been poor recently (winning only once in the last five games, excluding yesterday’s match,) so Tigres cannot be underestimated.

Why Bet on Tigres?

Tigres were not far from Monterrey during the regular season, ending one point behind and on a two-match winning streak. However, their momentum did not help them get ahead on the first leg, so they have to go all out and fix things during the 2nd leg or pack to go home.

Another great game by the best midfielder of this Liga MX season (the Spanish Sergio Canales) put them on the ropes as they were unable to take advantage of their locality. However, let’s remember that they bought the best midfielder from the previous edition, Juan Brunnetta, and with the company of Ibañez, Giroud, and other figures, they have the weapons to turn the score around.

The great news for Tigres is that they know what it’s like to win at the BBVA Stadium recently, beating Rayados 0-1 there on May 20, 2023, for the Clausura 2023 Liguilla.

Final Betting Analysis: Monterrey vs. Tigres

Tigres has been pretty inconsistent this season, and after being part of the triple tie at the top at the start of the season, they have been unable to taste regular success. They are also poor visitors, winning just once in this condition (against Puebla) in the last five games and losing three times.

Another thing to point out is that the felines have been unable to shine in key games, losing with Pachuca, América, Toluca, and Cruz Azul this tournament. The last defeat to Monterrey adds to that.

We believe the visitors will give a fight, but will only manage a 1-1 draw.

Go for a draw at 3.5. If you bet $100 at such odds, you could get $250 for a total payout of $350.
