Conference Semifinals: Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting KC Preview

Last Updated on November 20, 2023 4:20 pm by Erwin Noguera

We are on the last stretch in the MLS season, and with only 8 teams still fighting it out, we are going to take our time to analyze the Conference Semifinals. Right now, we look at the western side, as we put our attention on the clash between Houston Dynamo and Sporting KC at the Shell Energy Stadium.

The hosts for the match, the Dynamo, come as the 4th placed team in the conference. They are coming off a wild BO3 series against Real Salt Lake, which went the full three games and included two penalty shootouts, one won by each side.

As for Sporting Kansas City, the 8th-placed team continues a Cinderella run. They started with a penalty shootout win in the one-game Wild Card round. Then they went on and surprised top-seeded St. Louis Ciy with two thumping wins in the BO3.

Why Bet on the Houston Dynamo?

After a successful title defense in 2007, the traditional Texan franchise continues on its path to winning the MLS Cup again. They must feel lucky to have evaded top-seeded St. Louis City. However, we all had the feeling that the newcomers weren’t made for the post-season yet, while Sporting KC can be as dangerous as ever.

We all know how scary underdogs can be in American sports, especially after seeing the Miami Heat heroics last season for the NBA.

Accustomed to being in the last places of their conference for years, the Dynamo make it to the MLS Cup with a good 14 wins, 9 draws, and 11 losses record, just five points from the top of the East.

Why Bet on Sporting KC?

Accustomed to fighting for the top of the conference, the Sporting KC project came crashing to earth last season when they finished in the 12th position of the East, 7 points from a postseason berth.

Another franchise with a fair share of tradition, the Wizards are regular guests at the postseason party. Their experience showed at full this season, as after beating San Jose in a tight playoff, they got rid of the top-seeded St. Louis City with ease. Now, the team has to face a Houston Dynamo that comes to this stage for the first time in many years.

Sporting KC started the season like last year, at a poor level that put their qualification on the rope many times. However, their humble 12 wins, 8 draws, and 14 losses record was enough to qualify.

Final Betting Analysis: Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting KC

Houston finished with the Western Conference’s third-best goal differential (+13), while Kansas City’s was -3.

But none of that matters now. Kansas City had a much more impressive Round One performance. They knocked off the top seed in the conference and didn’t need a third game or penalty shootout to do it.

The Wizards have shown that their hot finish to the year was no fluke; they’ve more than earned their place at this stage.

But the run stops here, as the Dynamo’s superiority in midfield and especially at the back will be enough to see them through to the Western Conference Semifinal.

Go for the victory for the locals at -125. If you bet $100 at such odds, you could get $80.00 for a total payout of $180.
