Champions League Matchday 5 Betting Favorites

Last Updated on November 27, 2023 4:06 pm by Erwin Noguera

The Champions League group stage is reaching the last two matchdays, as we are hitting the 5th round. Even though there are some groups where the spots for the next stage are locked in, we still have room for surprises in others.

That means we are shifting our attention to the middle of group B, which has PSV and Lens fighting to get the second spot.

We also have Lazio, Feyenoord, and Atletico Madrid being points from each other, which keeps things interesting in Group E, and last, group F, where anything could shift around with a victory from any of the teams.

Let’s dive in this next matchday for an entertaining week at the Champions League.

Feyenoord turned in another superb team performance as they picked up a 4-2 victory over a resilient Excelsior side in the Eredivisie on Saturday. Arne Slot’s men have won ten of their last 11 matches in the Eredivisie, where they are currently second with 32 points.

They now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they have collected six points and sit third in Group E, two points off Tuesday’s visitors at the top of the pile.

Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, continued their surge to the top of the La Liga standings as they picked up a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Mallorca on Saturday. Diego Simeone’s side have won each of their last three matches, including an emphatic 6-0 victory over Celtic in the Champions League on November 7.

‘Los Rojiblancos’ are one of just six unbeaten sides in the Champions League this season, claiming two wins and two draws in their four matches so far. However, they have been poor visitors, drawing their two matches away (the first one in a truly dramatic manner), so we believe another tie is coming our way.

Atletico Madrid vs. Feyenoord Betting Pick: Draw.

Champions League Matchday 5: AC Milan vs. Dortmund

When:

Tuesday, November 28, 3:00 pm ET at San Siro

Moneyline odds:

Milan -105

Dortmund +270

Locked in a tussle to progress from the Champions League’s ‘Group of Death’, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund meet at San Siro on Tuesday when both sides aim to build on recent wins.

Dortmund tops Group F on seven points following back-to-back victories over Newcastle United, while third-placed Milan sit just two points behind after toppling PSG earlier this month.

After battling back from behind to beat Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month, when goals from Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud secured maximum points, Milan know another victory at San Siro would leave them within touching distance of making the knockout phase in consecutive campaigns.

While that will be far from a straightforward task against in-form Dortmund, now they have their destiny in their own hands.

We, however, expect another close-fought contest to unfold between two well-matched sides, following their tense goalless stalemate in October. Both clubs’ fate may be decided on the final matchday following a low-scoring draw at San Siro.

Milan vs. Dortmund Betting Pick: Draw

Champions League Matchday 5: PSG vs. Newcastle

When:

Tuesday, November 28, 3:00 pm ET at the Parc Des Princes

Moneyline odds:

PSG -160

Newcastle +400

Draw Offs:

+300

In a pivotal Champions League Group F encounter, PSG will welcome Newcastle United to the Parc des Princes. Both teams, after suffering setbacks in their previous outings, find themselves in a tight race for the knockout stages. This match is set to be a defining moment in a group.

Paris Saint-Germain, under the meticulous guidance of Luis Enrique, have demonstrated a formidable presence, especially at their home ground, the Parc des Princes. Their offensive machinery, powered by the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Gonçalo Ramos, has been consistently firing on all cylinders, as evidenced by their recent thumping 5-2 victory over Monaco.

On the other side, Newcastle United, although showcasing resilience and tactical adaptability under Eddie Howe, faces a formidable challenge away from home. The Magpies’ away form has been less than inspiring, with only two wins in their last nine road trips. Additionally, their defensive resilience is likely to be tested in the absence of key players like Sven Botman and Dan Burn.

We are not expecting Newcastle’s defense to withstand PSG’s offense in this clash, and we expect a 2-0 victory for the home team.

PSG vs. Newcastle Betting Pick: Paris-Saint Germain

Champions League Matchday 5: Sevilla vs. PSV

When:

Wednesday, November 29, 12:45 pm ET at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan

Moneyline odds:

Sevilla +155

PSV +160

Draw Offs:

+240

Heading into matchday five, Sevilla find themselves on the foot of Champions League Group B following their loss at Arsenal and PSV’s win over Lens last time out. Diego Alonso’s men have accumulated two points, while their Dutch visitors are on five.

Something tells us that between PSV Eindhoven and Sevilla could end with little reward for both teams. A draw is a real possibility since we do not see an obvious favorite. But we expect momentum to be a factor, and PSV is likely to take their last victory as a boost to get another 3 points and lock a spot in the next round along with Arsenal.

Sevilla vs. PSV Betting Pick: PSV
