PSG vs. Dortmund: Champions League Semifinals Preview

Last Updated on May 6, 2024 1:17 pm by Erwin Noguera

We are about to enter the 2nd leg of the semifinals in the Champions League season, and things are as exciting as they can be in both matches after the first leg.

We are looking at the 2nd clash between PSG and Dortmund, as the first gave the Germans a single-goal lead over the French at Signal Iduna Park. So now, things are exciting as the Parisians try to come from behind and take over now that they play at home.

The two teams face a date with history. For Dortmund, it would be their first final in more than a decade, and with Bayern in the other key, there’s a chance that this becomes a total remake and their opportunity to take vengeance. For PSG, their desired first Champions League is at stake.

Why Bet on PSG?

PSG were their own worst enemies in front of goal during the first leg and have now hit the woodwork a staggering ten times in this season’s Champions League. However, a timely rest from domestic duties has given Enrique and his backroom staff ample time to dissect last week’s wasteful performance.

Even though the Parisians have already secured the Ligue 1 title, their Champions League hopes hang in the balance. 0-1 is not a large difference, and they already beat the Germans 2-0 at the Parc des Princes this season.

They have the support of their fans, and even if PSG is not necessarily a historic powerhouse, their fans are among the most eager in Europe, and their ground has seen teams like Barcelona, Bayern, Real Madrid, and Manchester City lose in the recent past.

Following their 6-4 comeback win on aggregate over Barcelona in the previous round, PSG could become the first side to lose the first leg in both the quarterfinals and semifinals of a Champions League campaign and still progress to reach the final.

Why Bet on Dortmund?

Dortmund has had a horrible campaign in the Bundesliga, one that could surely put Edin Terzic’s job on the line except for two details: They are having a historic Champions League campaign, and Germany could lock in a fifth spot for the next edition of the competition thanks to the great level of their clubs this season.

Even more, BvB could lock their spot on their terms by winning the competition. It has been a season of ups and downs, but they have surprised the world, especially with their last two wins at the European level. However, their dramatic loss against RB Leipzig some days ago, apart from ending their top-four hopes, showed deep defensive vulnerabilities that, against PSG, would mean game over.

At the attack, they’ll put their hopes in Nicklas Fullkrug, as even if the striker has not been particularly prolific this season, he’s becoming accustomed to scoring important goals. At the back, Matt Hummels keeps being their cornerstone. Special mention to Jadon Sancho, who was the best player from the first leg.

Final Betting Analysis: PSG vs. Dortmund

Dortmund have been stellar in the Champions League despite a weak domestic campaign, but their opponents will surely improve from their first-leg display.

We expect PSG will win this clash on a 2-1 score and tie things up in the aggregate score. As a result, things will go down to penalties, and we expect that PSG will be taking the win and their pass to the finals.

Go for a victory for the locals at 1.515. If you bet $100 at such odds, you could get $51.5 for a total payout of $151.5.

PSG vs. Dortmund Betting Pick: Paris-Saint Germain
