2025 Truist Championship Top Contenders

Undoubtedly, the top favorite to win this year is Rory McIlroy. Champion in 2010, 2015, 2021, and 2024, the Northern Irishman is currently ranked number one and has had an outstanding 2025 season, claiming three titles so far. The most important being the long-awaited Masters victory, finally earning his green jacket.

McIlroy aims to continue to build his legacy as one of the greatest golfers in history. He has won two of his last four PGA Tour starts (The Masters and THE PLAYERS Championship), along with a fifth-place and a 12th-place finish in the other two events. His worst result this year was a 17th-place finish at The Genesis Invitational.

Justin Thomas is another golfer who has had a strong 2025. Last month, he won the RBC Heritage in a playoff, capturing his first title of the year and the 16th of his PGA Tour career. In addition to that win, he has two runner-up finishes and two other Top-10 results this year.

Thomas has played in this tournament the past two years, finishing 14th and 21st, with his best showing being a 7th-place finish in 2015, but just as a reminder, they weren’t on this field. He is currently third in the PGA Tour ranking and fifth in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Finally, to close out this list is Xander Schauffele. Although he is not among the top favorites, he finished as runner-up at this tournament in each of the past two years and is eager to capture a title this season.

2025 Truist Championship Outside picks

One golfer to keep an eye on is Ludvig Åberg. This year, he claimed his second PGA Tour title by winning The Genesis Invitational and finished seventh at The Masters in Augusta. However, the Swedish golfer has been all about extremes in 2025: three top-10 finishes, three results outside the top 20 (22nd, 42nd, and 54th), and three events where he either missed the cut or withdrew.

One of the betting favorites is Collin Morikawa. The 28-year-old American has yet to win a title in 2025 but has finished runner-up twice. After placing 14th at The Masters, he finished 54th at the RBC Heritage and missed the cut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Patrick Cantlay is another golfer ready to return to the winner’s circle. Since winning the 2022 BMW Championship, the 33-year-old American has not lifted a trophy. This year, he came close a couple of times, finishing fifth at both The American Express and The Genesis Invitational.
