The 2025 golf season is nearing its end, and this weekend marks the final tournament before the FedEx Cup Playoffs: the Wyndham Championship.

Held from July 31 to August 3, the tournament will take place at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina—a 7,127-yard, par-70 course.

The defending champion is Englishman Aaron Rai, while American legend Sam Snead holds the record for most titles at this event with eight. He also remains the oldest player to win a PGA Tour event, claiming his last Wyndham Championship victory at the age of 52.

2025 Wyndham Championship Top Contenders

In a tournament lacking many of the world’s top players, Keegan Bradley stands out as the only golfer ranked in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking. The American, with eight PGA Tour titles to his name, claimed the Travelers Championship this past June.

In addition to that win, Bradley has recorded four other top-10 finishes in 2025, including an eighth-place showing at the PGA Championship. However, his track record at Sedgefield Country Club isn’t impressive—his best finish in three appearances is 22nd in 2024. He’s coming off a 30th-place finish at The Open.

Another strong contender is Matt Fitzpatrick. The 30-year-old Englishman, who won the U.S. Open in 2022 and the RBC Heritage in 2023, is eyeing his third PGA Tour title. Though his 2025 season started slowly, he’s found form recently.

Fitzpatrick finished eighth at the PGA Championship in May and has now posted three consecutive top-10 finishes: eighth at the Rocket Classic and fourth in both the Genesis Scottish Championship and The Open, where he finished six strokes behind Scottie Scheffler.

Rounding out the list of favorites is Ben Griffin, who earned his first PGA Tour titles this year. The 29-year-old American won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in April and the Charles Schwab Challenge in May.

Griffin also finished runner-up at The Memorial Tournament and secured five other top-10 finishes, including eighth at the PGA Championship and tenth at the U.S. Open. It’s undoubtedly his best season so far, though he missed the cut in both tournaments he played in July.

2025 Wyndham Championship Outside picks

Among the players to watch, the defending champion must be included. England’s Aaron Rai will try to become the first golfer to successfully defend his Wyndham Championship title since Sam Snead did it in 1955 and 1956. This remains Rai’s only PGA Tour victory, and his lone top-10 finish this year was a fourth place at the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld.

Another Brit worth keeping an eye on is Robert MacIntyre. Winner of the 2024 RBC Canadian Open and Genesis Scottish Open, MacIntyre had a standout performance at the 2025 U.S. Open, finishing second—just two strokes behind J.J. Spaun. The Scottish also posted four other top-10 finishes, including a seventh-place result in his most recent appearance at The Open.

Lastly, there’s Hideki Matsuyama. The Japanese star kicked off the 2025 season on a high note by winning The Sentry, the year’s opening tournament. However, he’s cooled off since then, with his best showings being 13th-place finishes at The Genesis Invitational and the Rocket Classic. Still, he showed promising form with a 16th-place finish at The Open.
