MLS Matchday 11 Roundup

Columbus Crew vs. FC Cincinnati

The MLS completed a new Matchday last weekend, where we witnessed some thrilling matches, a few surprises, and above all, a rain of goals.

As many as 46 goals were scored on the day, clearly demonstrating that, right now, offense reigns supreme in Major League Soccer matches. However, we have in mind that many of the favorites managed to take convincing victories, so it is not surprising either.

After this matchday, Columbus Crew climbed to the top of the Eastern Conference after their big win, taking advantage of Cincinnati’s setback. On the other hand, in the West, the Whitecaps are still in a great moment and were the only team in the upper zone that managed to win, so right now, the advantage over Minnesota extends to seven points.

MLS Matchday 11 Roundup: Toronto vs. New England

Toronto 2.28New England 2.992 Draw Offs: 3.56

Toronto FC’s struggles worsened with a 0-2 defeat at home against the New England Revolution, adding to their six losses in the 2025 MLS season. This setback was further compounded by their elimination in the Canadian Championship against Montreal earlier in the week.

The tension at BMO Field intensified when the New England Revolution scored in the 11th minute, with Carles Gil taking advantage of an Ilay Feingold cross, left defender Nicksoen Gomis stranded, and tucked the ball into the top corner for a superb goal. The away goal fueled unrest among Toronto FC supporters, with protests against the club’s management.

Despite the adversity, Toronto FC continued to press for an equalizer. Ola Brynhildsen came close with a header in the 23rd minute but couldn’t convert a clear chance. Things got worse for Toronto when the Revolution scored a second goal through Leonardo Campana in the 27th minute.

Although Toronto FC tried to recover, they couldn’t break through the determined New England Revolution defense. The second half saw few scoring opportunities for both teams, with Toronto struggling to break down the opposition’s defense.

Columbus put on a great display against Charlotte FC, securing a 4-2 win with a dramatic finish in MLS Week 11.

The home side found the back of the net with goals from Dylan Chambost (’24), Diego Rossi (’38), Aziel Jackson (’51) and Jacen Russell Rowe (’81), while the visitors managed to score through Wilfried Zaha (’45+1) and Liel Abada (’64).

A memorable moment of the match was Liel Abada’s goal in the 18th minute of the second half. However, the Crew were unable to mount a comeback and ran out of chances to secure this away win.

Inter Miami bounced back from their unexpected loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps with an emphatic 4-1 victory over New York RB.

The “Herons” had endured three consecutive losses in all competitions, surrendering their lead in the Eastern Conference. In a significant shift, Lionel Messi completed the entire game and also broke his goalless streak with an impressive goal.

Javier Mascherano’s side began their dominance early when Tadeo Allende intercepted a Wikelman Carmona pass and set up Marcelo Weigandt with a cross, allowing Luis Suarez to deflect the ball in for Fafa Picault to open the scoring in the 8th minute. In the 28th minute, Picault sent in a cross that Weigandt attempted to convert, only for goalkeeper Carlos Coronel to save. However, the former Boca Juniors player found the net on the rebound, securing his first goal for the Florida club in 40 games.

The magic moment came just before halftime, with Lionel Messi orchestrating a pinpoint cross for Tadeo Allende, who then set up Luis Suarez to extend the lead to 3-0 and end a nine-game goal drought. The match saw a late consolation goal from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting for the visitors in the 42nd minute.

In the second half, Segovia and Messi came together to seal the 4-1 victory in the 67th minute with a well-executed move that ended in a powerful left-footed strike from Messi. The win allowed Inter Miami to bounce back from their previous 4-3 loss to Dallas FC, where they fielded substitute players for the semifinal against Vancouver and suffered a home defeat. Their next match will be away against Minnesota FC next Saturday.
