NFL Preseason Week 2: Seattle Seahawks vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The Seattle Seahawks pulled off one of the preseason surprises by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 33-16.
The winning quarterback was Drew Lock. The former New York Giant, now 28 years old, completed 10 of 12 passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns, both caught by wide receiver Jake Bobo.
Despite those passing scores, the Seahawks showed they remain a run-heavy team. They had 47 rushing attempts, finding the end zone twice through rookie Damien Martinez and Zach Charbonnet. Two rookies—Martinez (Miami Hurricanes) and Anthony Tyus (Ohio Bobcats)—led the way on the ground with 11 carries each.
On the Chiefs’ side, Gardner Minshew II completed seven of nine passes for 70 yards and a touchdown to tight end Robert Tonyan, who hadn’t played a game since January 7, 2024, with the Chicago Bears.
Result: Seattle Seahawks 33-16 Kansas City Chiefs
NFL Preseason Week 2: Detroit Lions vs. Miami Dolphins
In a great quarterback showdown, the Miami Dolphins defeated the Detroit Lions on the road, 24-17.
On the winning side, two of the new faces stood out. Zach Wilson, 26 years old and coming from the Denver Broncos, completed 15 of 23 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, rookie Quinn Ewers, out of the Texas Longhorns, completed 11 of 17 passes for 116 yards and his first two NFL touchdowns.
Another rookie who impressed for the Dolphins was wide receiver Theo Wease, who scored twice and now has three touchdowns this preseason.
On the Lions’ side, Kyle Allen, who arrived from the Pittsburgh Steelers, completed 14 of 17 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns—his fifth of the preseason and fourth through the air. Rookie wide receivers Jackson Meeks and Isaac TeSlaa also found the end zone again, just as they did in the previous game.
Result: Lions 17-24 Dolphins
NFL Preseason Week 2: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns picked up their second win of the preseason by defeating the reigning NFL champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, 22-13.
In a game where the Browns didn’t score through the air, their first touchdown came from rookie Ahmani Marshall, who made his NFL debut in the end zone with a rushing score. The other touchdown came from K.J. Henry. The 26-year-old defensive end, who debuted in 2023 with the Washington Commanders, recorded his first career touchdown by intercepting the ball at the 45-yard line and returning it all the way.
As for the quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel completed 13 of 18 passes for 143 yards, while Tyler Huntley went 10-for-13 for 71 yards.
On the champions’ side, Kyle McCord and Dorian Thompson-Robinson combined for 24 pass attempts, completing 13 for 64 yards and just one touchdown to Ainias Smith. Their ground game wasn’t much better, with only 33 yards on 19 rushing attempts.
Result: Eagles 13-22 Browns
NFL Preseason Week 2: Washington Commanders vs. Cincinnati Bengals
In the game that closed out the second week of the NFL preseason, the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Washington Commanders 31-17 on the road after a strong second quarter.
Joe Burrow saw a few minutes of action, but the star was Jake Browning. While Burrow completed 9 of 14 passes for 62 yards and a touchdown, Browning went 16 of 25 for 159 yards and two touchdowns.
Wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley, who came over from the Commanders and is fighting for a roster spot, scored his first two touchdowns with the team, while Charlie Jones added another through the air and Chase Brown scored one on the ground.
On the Commanders’ side, it was not a good night for their quarterbacks. Josh Johnson finished with six completions on nine attempts for 56 yards, while Sam Hartman went 4 of 10 for 29 yards. That’s a total of just 85 passing yards, two interceptions (one each), and zero touchdowns.
Their points came on the ground: rookie running back Jacory Merritt (Arizona Wildcats) scored his first NFL touchdown, and Jayden Daniels, who didn’t attempt a pass, had a 14-yard rushing touchdown. After that first-quarter burst, Washington only managed a field goal in the third quarter.
