Norway came into the tournament as one of the favorites and delivered. While they won all three of their group matches, each victory was by a narrow margin: 2-1 over Switzerland, 2-1 over Finland, and 4-3 over Iceland. A major blow will be the absence of midfielder Marit Lund, who was sent off in the last match. Signe Gaupset, who started on the bench, made a strong case for a starting spot after scoring two goals and providing two assists against Iceland.

Italy secured their place in the quarterfinals dramatically, beating Belgium 1-0, drawing 1-1 with Portugal, and losing 3-1 to Spain in their final group match. Their three goals have been scored by three different players, including Cristiana Girelli, the Serie A’s top scorer. The Italians, runners-up in 1993 and 1997, have not reached the semifinals since then.

Sweden topped Group C with a perfect record, defeating Denmark (1-0), Poland (3-0), and Germany (4-1). They conceded only one goal during the entire group stage, making them the best defensive side so far. They haven’t lost a match since July 12, 2024, when they were beaten 2-1 by France in the qualifiers for this tournament.

England had a rough start, losing 2-1 to France. However, they bounced back with dominant wins over the Netherlands (4-0) and Wales (6-1). The reigning champions need Alessia Russo—who has just one goal in the tournament so far—to rediscover the lethal form she showed throughout the season with Arsenal.

Spain is the top favorite to win their first Women’s Euro and is living up to expectations. They dominated the group stage, defeating Portugal 5-0, Belgium 6-2, and Italy 3-1, making them the tournament’s highest-scoring team. Esther González leads the tournament in goals with four, while Alexia Putellas is second with three and is also the top assist provider with four. Current Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmatí appears to be fully recovered from meningitis and is expected to start.

Switzerland achieved a historic milestone by advancing past the group stage for the first time. They drew 1-1 with Finland thanks to a stoppage-time goal in the 90+2 minute from Riola Xhemaili. They lost their opening match to Norway (2-1) and then defeated Iceland (2-0). Thanks to that late equalizer, they edged out the Finns on goal difference.

France had an excellent group stage, defeating England (2-1), Wales (4-1), and the Netherlands (5-2). They’ve scored 11 goals through nine different players, showcasing the team’s strong offensive depth. They head into this match on an 11-game winning streak, and their best performance came in the previous tournament, when they reached the semifinals.

Germany, meanwhile, is the most successful team in UEFA Women’s Euro history, with eight titles—six of them consecutive, all within a span of nine tournaments. They beat Poland (2-0) and Denmark (2-1) in their first two matches before losing to Sweden (4-1), ending a run of seven straight wins and eight unbeaten games. They’ll be without fullback Carlotta Wamser, who was sent off.
