Today, Saturday, April 3, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) moves to the beautiful floor of Caesars Bluewaters Dubai in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The main fight will be carried out by the reigning world champion of the Super Featherweight category, the American Jamel Herring, and the two-time world champion in two different divisions, the Irishman Carl Frampton. Both are currently considered two of the best boxers at 130 pounds by the World Boxing Organization and will compete for the Super Featherweight Title.
How Did Herring and Frampton Get to This Fight?
Reigning Super Featherweight Champion Herring has a current record of 22-2, with 10 of those victories via knockout. The American has managed to defend the Super Featherweight Title twice now. The first victory was against Masayuki Ito in May 2019, and his most recent defense of the title was against Puerto Rican Jonathan Oquendo by disqualification last September at “La Burbuja”. Herring has 5 consecutive victories with his last two victories being against Oquendo and Lamont Roach played on November 9, 2019, which he also won by unanimous decision.

On the other side of the ring, we have the Irishman Frampton who has an impressive 28-2 record. What makes the most noise of his record is not the great 28 victories, but the fact that 16 of those victories were by knockout, which goes to show that Frampton is a ruthless boxer. Frampton has won two World Titles at Junior Featherweight and Featherweight, and after this fight, he wants to be the first Irishman to be the world champion in 3 different divisions. Frampton currently comes from winning two consecutive fights with his last defeat taking place on December 2018. In this fight, he was defeated by unanimous decision by Josh Warrington, who at the time, was the best fighter for the IBF Featherweight World Title.
In his last fight, Frampton defeated Darren Traynor on August 15, 2020, by TKO in the seventh round of the BT Sport Studio event held in London, UK.
