Israel Mobolaji Temitayo Odunayo Oluwafemi Owolabi Adesanya<\/strong> born on the 22nd of July, 1989, is a Nigerian-born New Zealand professional mixed martial artist, and former kickboxer and boxer with multiple championships in all three disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a mixed martial artist, he is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC<\/a><\/strong>), where he is the current\u00a0UFC\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>Middleweight Champion.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is a former Glory Middleweight Championship title, challenger. As of October 25, 2021, he is #3 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya <\/strong>is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in mixed martial arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Wilkinson<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In December 2017, it was announced that Adesanya had signed a contract with the UFC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He made his debut against Rob Wilkinson on 11 February 2018, at UFC 221<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He won the fight via technical knockout in the second round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This win earned him the Performance of the Night<\/em> bonus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Vettori<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya’s <\/strong>next fight took place on 14 April 2018, against Marvin Vettori<\/strong> at UFC on Fox 29<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He won the match by split decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Tavares<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya then faced Brad Tavares<\/strong> on 6 July 2018, at The Ultimate Fighter 27 Finale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Last Stylebender won the one-sided fight via unanimous decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This win earned him his second Performance of the Night<\/em> award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Brunson<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya <\/strong>faced Derek Brunson<\/strong> on 3 November 2018, at UFC 230<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He won the fight via technical knockout in round one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This win earned him the Performance of the Night<\/em> award for the third time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Silva<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

While initially expected to serve as the co-main event, Adesanya <\/strong>faced former UFC <\/strong>Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva<\/strong> on 10 February 2019, in the main event of UFC 234<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He won the fight via unanimous decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This fight earned both competitors the Fight of the Night<\/em> award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UFC Middleweight Championship<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Gastelum<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya <\/strong>faced Kelvin Gastelum<\/strong> for the interim UFC <\/strong>Middleweight Championship on 13 April 2019, in the co-main event of UFC 236<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He won the back-and-forth fight via unanimous decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This fight earned him the Fight of the Night<\/em> award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fight was widely regarded as the best fight of the year, earning the nomination from most of the MMA news outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Whittaker<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya <\/strong>then faced Robert Whittaker<\/strong> in a title unification bout on 6 October 2019, headlining UFC 243<\/strong> for UFC Middleweight Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a knockdown in the last second of the first round, Adesanya won the fight via knockout in the second round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Romero<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya <\/strong>next faced three-time UFC <\/strong>title challenger Yoel Romero<\/strong> on March 7, 2020, at UFC 248<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He won the fight via unanimous decision, defending his title for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Costa<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In his next title defense, Adesanya <\/strong>faced fellow undefeated fighter, Paulo Costa<\/strong>, on 27 September 2020 at UFC 253<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This marked the first time two male unbeaten mixed martial artists met in a title fight since 2009.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He won the fight via technical knockout in the second round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This win earned him his fifth Performance of the Night award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Blachowicz<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya moved up a weight class and faced Jan B\u0142achowicz<\/strong> for the UFC <\/strong>Light Heavyweight Championship on 6 March 2021, headlining the UFC 259<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the weight-ins, Adesanya <\/strong>weighed 200 pounds, five pounds away from the light heavyweight limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He lost the fight via unanimous decision, defeated for the first time in mixed martial arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya vs. Vettori<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Adesanya rematched Marvin Vettori<\/strong> for the UFC Middleweight Championship on June 12, 2021, headlining the UFC 263<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
