The\u00a0Risen Star Stakes<\/strong>\u00a0is a horse race<\/a><\/strong> that serves as preparation for the\u00a0Kentucky Derby\u00a0<\/strong>each year. This event is under the management of\u00a0Fair Grounds Race Course\u00a0<\/strong>and is every year in February in the city of\u00a0New Orleans<\/strong>. The\u00a0Risen Star Stakes<\/strong>\u00a0is 1 1\/16 miles in length.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Risen Star Stakes 2022: History<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This race has the name of \u201cRisen Star<\/strong>\u201d in honor of the thoroughbred colt that won this race in 1988; then it was the Louisiana Derby Trial Stakes<\/strong>. This colt had an excellent year and won in the Louisiana Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes<\/strong>. Winning every major race that year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has been a constant since 2010 that the colts that measure themselves in this Risen Star Stakes<\/strong> and, especially those that have come out winners, are strong contenders to compete for the annual Triple Crown<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Risen Star <\/strong>started as a Grade 3 race; but in 2010 it reached Grade 2 status and as a result, the prize pool for this event increased to $400,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it’s safe to say that Risen Star <\/strong>continues to grow. In 2020, the distance increased to 1 1\/8 miles; a change so popular that the race drew 23 entrants and was run in two divisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Risen Star Stakes 2022: Last Years<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the last two years, the Risen Star <\/strong>has been largely dominated by the same trainer, Brad Cox<\/strong>. He has managed to win with the colts Mr. Monomoy <\/strong>in 2020 and Mandaloum <\/strong>in 2021, both ridden by jockey Florent Geroux<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
