Jorge Masvidal <\/strong>is an American professional mixed martial artist born November 12, 1984. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He currently competes in the Welterweight division for the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masvidal <\/strong>has been competing professionally since 2003; he has also competed for Bellator, Strikeforce, Shark Fights, and World Victory Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He holds the record for the fastest knockout in UFC <\/strong>history at five seconds and holds the UFC <\/strong>‘BMF’ Championship belt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of November 23, 2021, he is #6 in the UFC welterweight rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2019<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Masvidal vs. Till<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

After a 16-month layoff, Masvidal <\/strong>faced Darren Till<\/strong> on March 16, 2019, in the main event at UFC <\/strong>Fight Night 147.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although dropped in the first round, he went on to win the fight via knockout in the second round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The win also earned Masvidal <\/strong>his second Fight of the Night<\/em> and third Performance of the Night<\/em> bonus awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masvidal vs. Askren<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Masvidal <\/strong>faced Ben Askren<\/strong> on July 6, 2019 at UFC 239.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both fighters rushed in immediately with Masvidal <\/strong>catching Askren <\/strong>with a flying knee as he attempted a takedown, winning the fight via knockout 5 seconds into round one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The knockout was the fastest in UFC <\/strong>history, breaking the record set by Duane Ludwig<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This win earned him the Performance of the Night award, and it earned him the 2019 Knockout of the Year by multiple MMA media outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently, Masvidal <\/strong>signed a new, eight-fight contract with the UFC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Masvidal vs. Diaz – BMF Fight<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Masvidal <\/strong>faced Nate Diaz<\/strong> on November 2, 2019, in the main event at UFC <\/strong>244.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a unique situation, UFC <\/strong>President Dana White confirmed that the headlining bout was for a celebratory “Baddest Motherfucker” (\u2018BMF\u2019) belt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After dominating most of the fight, Masvidal <\/strong>won the fight via TKO due to the doctor stoppage between rounds three and four when the cage-side physician determined a cut over Diaz’s<\/strong> right eye rendered him unable to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the decision was controversial among fight fans, Brian Suttere, a Mayo Clinic-affiliated physician, agreed with the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2020<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Masvidal vs. Usman<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

On 5 July 2020, it was reported that Masvidal <\/strong>had stepped in on less than a week’s notice to face Kamaru Usman<\/strong> for the UFC <\/strong>Welterweight Championship at UFC <\/strong>251, replacing original challenger Gilbert Burns<\/strong>, who had tested positive for COVID-19 on 3 July 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He lost the uneventful fight via unanimous decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The card reportedly generated 1.3 million pay-per-view buys in the United States, the most since UFC <\/strong>229 in October 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2021<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Masvidal vs. Usman 2<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Masvidal <\/strong>faced Kamaru Usman<\/strong> in a rematch for the UFC<\/strong> Welterweight Championship on April 24, 2021, at UFC <\/strong>261.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He lost the fight via knockout in round two, marking his first stoppage loss inside the UFC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
