The USD$20m Saudi Cup<\/strong>, the highlight of the weekend; It is a global Group 1 flat race over 1800m and is the richest race in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Won in 2021 by HRH Prince Abdul Rahman Al Faisal\u2019s global superstar, Mishriff, now one of the most famous horses; The Saudi Cup is, via stream, into more than a 350million homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the 2022 Saudi Cup<\/strong>, the Jockey Club of Saudi Arabia is throwing open the gates and inviting spectators to join them at King Abdulaziz Racecourse in Riyadh to witness firsthand the third running of this spectacular horse race. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extra interest will be provided locally by the return of the globetrotting Mishriff; who will attempt to defend his\u00a0crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as The\u00a0Saudi Cup<\/strong>, the race day also features five highly regarded Group 3 races on dirt and turf; the Group 2 Obaiya Arabian Classic for Purebred Arabian racehorses<\/a>; and the Jockey Club Handicap for locally-trained horses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Saudi Cup<\/strong> is the final race on an eight-race card that sees horses from around the world compete on dirt and turf for a share of the USD$31.5m total prize pot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inaugural running\u00a0in 2020 saw 22 Group or Grade 1 winners compete for a total prize pot of USD$29.2m.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2021 the prize purse was raised to $30.5m. Also, the number of Group and Grade 1 winners entered to run went up to 31. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, the meeting received a record number of entries from 22 countries; including 70 individual Group 1 or Grade 1 winners.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of them is last year\u2019s winner Mishriff, trained by John and Thady Gosden in the UK, who is returning to Saudi Arabia to defend his title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Should Mishriff, who is owned by His Royal Highness Prince A A Faisal successfully defend his crown, he will become the highest-earning horse of all time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
