Argentina’s Fernando Martinez<\/strong> defeated Filipin Jerwin Ancajas<\/strong> by unanimous decision in a brutal and entertaining 12-round, 115-pound championship match<\/a> that opened Showtime’s tripleheader of The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas<\/strong>. The judges gave victory to Mart\u00ednez<\/strong> with results of 117-111, 118-110, and 118-110; where they rewarded Mart\u00ednez’s <\/strong>aggressiveness, agility, and very good location of blows; this being the most outstanding victory in the career of the Argentinian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Argentine managed to strip Ancajas<\/strong> of his junior bantamweight title, which he had held since September 2016. Martinez<\/strong> came into this fight with a perfect record of 14 wins and no losses; while Ancajas <\/strong>had 9 successful title defenses and was the favorite to take the victory.

Former champion Ancajas<\/strong> knew that his only chance to retain the title was to get a knockout in the 12th round; but he was unable to hurt Mart\u00ednez<\/strong>, who was hitting the Filipino’s face and body with many blows.

Such was the aggressiveness and precision shown by Mart\u00ednez <\/strong>that the referee of the fight stopped the actions several times to express his concern about the number of blows Ancajas <\/strong>had received. Mart\u00ednez<\/strong>, with an excellent combination of blows, managed to do a lot of damage to the Filipino with 50 seconds left in the 10th round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fight was dom by the Argentinian Mart\u00ednez<\/strong> at all times; it was his night and, although he did not start as the favorite to take the victory, he was inspired. His combinations of right-left-right blows managed to send the canvas and to the ropes several times to the Filipin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Ancajas <\/strong>tried to recover throughout the fight in search of an accurate blow that would give him victory by way of knockout; the Argentine’s agility was on another level and he never allowed him to land several blows in a row.

The best moment for the now-former world champion was starting the fight; in the first 5 rounds where the fight was much more even, with both boxers connecting blows to the face and body. By that time, the fight could have been for either one.

Finally, the judges gave their results giving the Argentine the victory by unanimous decision; a fair result, and one that we were all waiting for after observing Mart\u00ednez’s<\/strong> supremacy throughout the fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
