The\u00a0PGA Tour<\/strong>\u00a0is taking a trip for the\u00a0Valspar Championship<\/strong>\u00a02022 to take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This professional golf tournament on the\u00a0PGA Tour<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is played annually on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, northwest of Tampa, Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year the event takes place from Thursday, March 17th to Sunday 20th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Event Overview \u2013 Valspar Championship \u2013 2022 \u2013 PGA Golf Tour<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The tournament was founded in 2000 as the Tampa Bay Classic<\/strong>. Originally it was an alternate event in autumn and late summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was scheduled for the same week as the WGC-American Express Championship<\/strong> in 2001 in mid-September. However, the September 11 attacks (on Tuesday) forced the cancellations of both tournaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 2003 to 2006, the Tampa Bay event had a slot in the schedule to itself in late October (and early November in 2003) as the last full-field event before the Tour Championship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chrysler Corporation was the title sponsor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2007, the Tampa Bay event has been in March, as the Players Championship moved six weeks later, to mid-May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a time, the tournament was without a title sponsor, leading to speculation on its fate beyond 2007. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, on January 24, 2007, tournament officials and the PGA Tour<\/strong> announced a six-year sponsorship agreement with PODS of Clearwater, Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the company chose to exercise an option to withdraw as title sponsor after the 2008 event. Later on tournament officials searched to find a replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 4, 2008, Transitions Optical, Inc., the photochromic lens manufacturer headquartered locally in Largo, was the new title sponsor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transitions left the event after the 2012 season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just two weeks before the 2013 tournament, EverBank agreed to be the presenting sponsor for the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2013, Valspar Corporation signed a four-year deal to become the title sponsor of the event, now named the Valspar Championship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 9, 2016, the PGA Tour, Valspar Corporation, and Copperhead Charities \u2013 the Valspar Championship host organization \u2013 announced a three-year title sponsorship extension, thus carrying Valspar’s commitment to the tournament through 2020 and later on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
