This event is the 142nd edition of the US Open<\/strong> and takes place outdoors on a hard surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is also the fourth and the last Grand Slam Event of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US Open 2022 \u2013 Event Overview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Held by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the\u00a0US Open<\/strong>\u00a0forms part of the\u00a02022 ATP Tour and the 2022 WTA Tour calendars<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>under the Grand Slam category.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament will consist of both men’s and women’s singles and doubles draw. Both doubles draws will return to standard 64 players; as singles players will remain in the standard 128-person format in each category.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are also singles and doubles events for both boys and girls (players under 18). These are part of the Grade A category of tournaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Event Preview:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Along with the prize money comes some blockbuster names; including Serena Williams, who has announced she will retire after this tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rafael Nadal will look to tie Williams’ Grand Slam record (23) in New York. Meanwhile, 2021 US Open champions Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu are hoping to defend their titles.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

American Naomi Osaka will return to action after missing Wimbledon, and fellow American Coco Gauff is riding serious momentum after making the French Open final earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some notable names who won’t be present in New York: Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev, Angelique Kerber, and Sania Mirza have each withdrawn from the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Broadcast:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

In the United States,\u00a0the 2022 US Open<\/strong>\u00a0currently runs for the eighth year in a row under an 11-year, $825 million contract with ESPN<\/a>, in which the broadcaster holds exclusive rights to the entire tournament and the US Open Series.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
