The 2024 edition of the Leagues Cup pits great teams from the MLS and the Liga MX against each other. And to add up, the three highest-placing teams will qualify for the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

We must point out that the groups and format for the 2024 edition were announced on January 31. Unlike the 2023 edition, only two regions are used for the tournament’s group stage, divided into eight groups in the West and seven in the East.

All matches will be in the United States and Canada at MLS venues. Meanwhile, both Club Am\u00e9rica and Columbus Crew, as their league’s respective Champions, are going to be waiting for the rest of the teams on the Knockout stage, but now that the first matchday out of three is coming, we have to focus on the matches that are going to unfold soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pumas and Austin are meeting on the first matchday of Leagues Cup group A, and both will have to deal with the 1st seed of the group stage, Monterrey, afterward.

Pumas is the 20th seed, and Austin is the 35th seed. The felines are doing pretty good on the regular season of the Liga MX, being unbeaten. However, Austin is on eight wins, seven draws, and ten losses, so they must fix things in this tournament.<\/strong>

We are expecting both teams to get into gear when they meet on the field, but Pumas should be having the better time.

Puebla, the 21st placed team on the seedsis facing Inter Miami, who are the 40th placed seed. The thing about seeds here is fun, as Inter Miami is currently having the most successful run in the whole MLS.

Puebla is on the 13th spot in the Liga MX, with one win, one draw, and two losses, getting to a mediocre start.<\/strong>

It’s going to be a tough start for Puebla in group N, and we expect Inter Miami to get the victorywith ease.

Group B is off to an interesting start, as Guadalajara, the 4th seed in the tournament, faces San Jose Earthquakes on the 23rd seed.

Chivas is on a positive streak in Liga MX, which should allow them to come into this clash with the right momentum. It’s San Jose who should be worried, as they are on four wins, two draws, and 19 losses in the MLS.<\/strong>

After this clash, both teams have to deal with a strong LA Galaxy, and we expect Guadalajara to win.

The 10th seed Club Leon and the 26th seed Portland Timbers face off before bringing Colorado into the mix.

The Esmeraldas had a slow start to their Liga MX run, with a loss and three draws, but now, they can start anew. On the other hand, Portland Timbers with ten wins, six draws, and nine losses are doing well recently, even though they lost against the top-placed LA Galaxy in the MLS recently.

We expect the Portland team to win, as they have been doing good enough in general and their form should allow them to get the best of the Mexican team in their debut for the Leagues Cup 2024.<\/a>
