The longest offseason in major professional sports will be over by the end of the week. Five\u00a0NFL\u00a0teams have already opened training camps. Twenty-three more start on Tuesday, and the remaining four kick off Wednesday. We must point out that the Hall of Fame Game between the\u00a0Houston Texans\u00a0and\u00a0Chicago Bears\u00a0is less than 48 hours away.

As usual, the NFL preseason <\/a>goes down to 4 weeks, but the first week, will only have a single game, which is going to be taking place this Thursday, and it is the aforementioned match.

After that, we go to next week’s Thursday, where the regular list of games begins, with all the teams getting ready to bring us a solid 16 games per week through August before the First week of the Regular Season Kicks off in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Teams and Current “Power Rankings”<\/h2><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The preseason rankings start where last season\u2019s rankings ended \u2014 with the\u00a0Kansas City Chiefs\u00a0and\u00a0San Francisco 49ers\u00a0at the top \u2014 but there\u2019s been some movement down the line.

The Hall of Fame Game participants, for instance, are among the biggest risers because of one young quarterback who has already proven himself and another who everyone expects to soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Kansas City Chiefs<\/h2><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last time the Chiefs failed to make the NFL\u2019s final four,\u00a0Matthew Stafford\u00a0was a Lion,\u00a0Ryan Tannehill\u00a0was a Dolphin, and\u00a0Ben Roethlisberger\u00a0was an active player. That was 2017. Since then,\u00a0Patrick Mahomes\u00a0has won 15 playoff games (more than all quarterbacks but\u00a0Tom Brady\u00a0and Joe Montana) and never finished a season as a starter short of the AFC Championship Game.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. San Francisco 49ers<\/h2><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 49ers are the NFL\u2019s narrative busters. Need a top-10 quarterback to compete at the highest level? Nope. San Francisco has gone to two Super Bowls and two more NFC title games with Brock Purdy and Jimmy Garoppolo atquarterback.<\/strong>There are consequences for missing on a top-five quarterback? Not for the Niners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Detroit Lions<\/h2><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lions have won more games since Nov. 6, 2022 (22),than they did in the previous 1,769 days (18).<\/strong> These are giddy times in Detroit, and the Lions have responded by throwing cash around, extending quarterback Jared Goff, offensive lineman Penei Sewell, and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown to big-money deals this offseason. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Houston Texans<\/h2><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For most of the NFL\u2019s history, calling a team the Lions of the AFC would have been fighting words. Not anymore. The Texans are the cross-conference counterparts of the Lions, which is to say they are their conference\u2019s best-vibes team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Baltimore Ravens<\/h2><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2023 Ravens were the NFL\u2019s best team for long stretches. The 2024 Ravens are something different. Baltimore has added Derrick Henry but lost defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, linebacker Patrick Queen, safety Geno Stone, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, three starting offensive linemen, and about 10 percent of a quarterback. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Cleveland Browns<\/h2><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the first four seasons of Deshaun Watson\u2019s career, he had a passer rating of 104.5, a 2.4 touchdown-to-interception ratio, and was off target on only 6.4 percent of his throws, according to TruMedia. <\/strong>It\u2019s why the Browns sent three first-round picks, a third, and two fourths to the Texans to acquire him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
