2024 Olympics Women’s 800m Freestyle Top Contenders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To talk about women’s swimming is to talk about Katie Ledecky. The 27-year-old American is in her fourth Olympic Games, and in all of them, she won the gold medal in this event, proving that she is a specialist.<\/strong> The first time was in London in 2012 when she was just 15 years old, becoming one of the youngest Olympic medalists in history. Since then, she has dominated this discipline.

Not only that, in total, there are already 13 medals for Ledecky, who in Paris 2024 already climbed to all the places on the podium, winning gold in the 1500m freestyle, silver in 4x200m freestyle, and bronze in 400m freestyle. Precisely, in the 1500m, an image of her went around the world when she reached the finish line, and her rivals did not even appear on the TV broadcast. She also holds several records, including the Olympic record in the 800m freestyle.

With her 13 medals, eight of them gold, she is the second woman with the most Olympic medals in history, only behind gymnast Larisa Latynina (USSR), who has 18, so that will be her next goal.<\/strong> She is also tied for fifth place as the Olympian with the most medals, two behind Marit Bjorgen and Nikolai Andrianov, 5 behind Latynina, and 13 behind Michael Phelps, who seems unreachable. Already in Paris 2024, she surpassed her compatriots Jenny Thompson and Dara Torres.

Another American who is among the favorites is Paige Madden. A silver medalist in Tokyo and Paris in the 4x200m freestyle, she is Ledecky’s teammate, so she knows her perfectly and has learned from her. Madden won last year’s gold medal in the 800m freestyle at the Panamerican Games, but Ledecky did not participate.

And we cannot rule out Australia’s Ariarne Titmus, who had the third fastest time in the semifinals and has already won two golds at Paris 2024 in the 400m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle, plus a silver in the 200m freestyle. At 23, she has four golds, two silvers, and a bronze in two Olympic Games,<\/a> and is called to take Ledecky\u2019s place in the next years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other Australian in the final, Lani Pallister, is also a swimmer to watch out for. The 22-year-old was gold with teammate Titmus in the 4x200m freestyle, and two years ago she was a gold medalist in the 800m freestyle at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m).

Germany’s Isabel Marie Gose was a bronze medalist in Paris 2024 in the 1500m freestyle, and this year, she was silver in Doha at the World Aquatics Championships in the 800m, being beaten by Italy’s Simona Quadarella, who will also be in the final and who was already bronze in this same competition in Tokyo 2020.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the local Anastasiia Kirpichnikova, silver in the 1500m, and who has the support of the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
