The final matchday of the Apertura MX 2024 regular season brought big surprises, including Toluca\u2019s decisive win over Am\u00e9rica, which now faces the prospect of playing in the Play-In.

Meanwhile, Chivas missed their chance to secure direct qualification to the quarterfinals by losing at home to the surprising Atl\u00e9tico San Luis.

The most exciting match of the round was between Cruz Azul and Tigres, which ended in a draw, while Tijuana defeated Puebla.

The teams that qualified directly to the quarterfinals are Cruz Azul, Toluca, Tigres, Pumas, Monterrey, and San Luis. Tijuana, Am\u00e9rica, Chivas, and Atlas will go to the Play-In.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite losing 1-0 at home to Atl\u00e9tico San Luis, Chivas had enough points to secure a spot in the Play-In, keeping their title hopes alive in Mexican soccer.

The match\u2019s only goal came in second-half stoppage time when Ronaldo Luis N\u00e1jera sent a cross to the far post, allowing Rodrigo Dourado to score while under pressure. Guadalajara had no time to respond.

San Luis secured a direct berth in the Liga MX quarterfinals with 30 points, while Chivas finished in ninth place with 25 points, having recorded just four wins in their last ten matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If anyone thought reigning champions Club Am\u00e9rica would easily win at Toluca, the Diablos made a bold statement with a 4-0 rout, sending the \u00c1guilas to the dreaded Play-In.<\/a>

Just eight minutes into the game, Jes\u00fas Gallardo capitalized on a rebound from the opposing goalkeeper to score the opener. Fifty minutes later, Alexis Vega assisted Jes\u00fas Angulo for the second goal, and Paulinho added a third in the 72nd minute following a ball recovered by Gallardo. The final goal came from Luan, who pounced on a save deflection by Luis Malag\u00f3n.

Toluca finished second with 35 points and remained unbeaten at home, with seven wins and two draws. Am\u00e9rica, with 27 points, heads to the Play-In to fight for a spot in the next round of Mexican soccer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two of the top favorites this season in Mexico, Cruz Azul, and Tigres, faced off at the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, ending in a 1-1 draw.

What made this game particularly exciting was that both goals came at the end. Nicol\u00e1s Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez put the visiting team ahead with a penalty, while in the 90+8′, \u00c1ngel Sep\u00falveda leveled the score with a header off a cross from Ignacio Rivero on the right.

Cruz Azul finished as the leader with 42 points despite drawing in the last two rounds. Tigres, meanwhile, lost their hold on second place and ended up third with 34 points, just one behind Toluca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite their 2-1 home win over Puebla, other results didn\u2019t go Tijuana’s way, leaving them in Play-In positions.

The winning goals came in the second half. In the 60th minute, Efra\u00edn \u00c1lvarez sent in a cross that Joe Corona converted into a goal, and at 90+13\u2019, Carlos Gonz\u00e1lez scored from another cross. This allowed them to come back from behind, as Puebla had been leading since the 8th minute with a goal from Emanuel Gularte.

The Xolos finished seventh with 29 points, while Puebla ended 15th with just 14 points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
