The final matchday of the MLS regular season is here, and there are still two teams fighting for a spot in the Western Conference Play-In, while in the East, a few clubs are looking to qualify directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the West, four teams are battling for their lives. FC Dallas sits eighth and must beat the conference leaders, Vancouver Whitecaps, on the road to avoid depending on other results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other team currently holding a Play-In spot is Real Salt Lake, who will visit one of the weakest clubs, St. Louis City, and face the same must-win situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two clubs waiting for an opportunity\u2014knowing that a loss from their rivals plus a win of their own would give them that Play-In spot\u2014are Colorado and San Jose. The Rapids need to beat Los Angeles FC and hope one of the two above them fails to win, while the Earthquakes must do the same against Austin and hope that two of the teams ahead of them drop points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vancouver Whitecaps have had a great season and only need a draw to secure first place in the Western Conference. <\/strong>Despite suffering major injury setbacks throughout the year, the Canadians have consistently bounced back and found a key addition in Thomas M\u00fcller. The German has six goals and three assists in six MLS appearances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dallas, meanwhile, sits in eighth place with 41 points\u2014 three behind seventh and three ahead of 11th.<\/strong> They could qualify directly for the playoffs, go to the Play-in, or be left empty-handed. The good news is that advancing to the next stage depends entirely on them. They were in good form with an eight-match unbeaten streak, but recently lost 2-1 to LA Galaxy and suffered a red card for Logan Farrington, along with suspensions for Petar Musa and Ramiro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St. Louis City has once again been eliminated and remains far from the qualification zone. With 31 points, they sit 13th in the West, and regardless of whether they win, draw, or lose, their position won\u2019t change. <\/strong>They finished the season fairly well, winning three of their last four matches. They just defeated Austin 1-3, but at home, they\u2019ve earned only one of their last nine points. They were one of the worst home teams, winning just four of their 16 matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real Salt Lake depends on itself. With 40 points, they are in ninth place, holding onto the last Play-In spot in the West.<\/strong> They have the same number of points as 10th-place Colorado, but the first tiebreaker is number of wins, where they have one more than the Rapids. A victory would secure their place in the next stage, although they are coming off a 1-0 loss to Seattle and have lost four straight away matches. In addition, they have gone 14 league games without a draw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colorado had a terrible end to the tournament, which hurt them significantly.They managed to earn only four of their last 18 points, dropping to 10th place in the West and currently sitting outside the qualification zone. They have the same 40 points as Salt Lake but one fewer win.<\/strong> They must win and hope that one of the two teams above them fails to do so. They are coming off a loss to the \u2018Royals\u2019 in the crucial head-to-head matchup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, it\u2019s been a great season for Los Angeles FC. They sit third in the West with 59 points and will be looking to climb to second place.<\/strong> They had six straight wins but are coming off a 1-0 loss to Austin, partly due to the absence of key players who were away on international duty. Denis Bouanga returns, having scored in six consecutive matches\u201410 goals during that span. In total, he has 24 goals, just two behind Lionel Messi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The San Jose Earthquakes are hanging by a thread. With 38 points, they sit in 11th place and need two of the three teams above them\u2014Dallas, Salt Lake, and Colorado\u2014to lose, while they must win their own match.<\/strong> However, that\u2019s something that hasn\u2019t happened often. They have only one win in their last five games, with the other four being losses. They are coming off a 4-1 defeat to Vancouver and have lost three straight home matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Austin secured direct qualification to the playoffs last weekend by defeating Los Angeles FC 1-0 with a goal from Owen Wolff in the 83rd minute. <\/strong>That win ended a three-game losing streak, including one in the U.S. Open Cup. They can no longer move up or down in the standings, as they are locked in sixth place, but they will play a decisive role in determining the final two MLS playoff spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
