The second Major of the year is here: the PGA Championship, bringing together the 156 best golfers in the world in pursuit of one of the most coveted titles: the Wanamaker Trophy.

This will be the second time the tournament is held at this course, which plays as a par 71 and stretches over 7,600 yards. The last time it was hosted here was in 2017, when Justin Thomas took the win home.

The most recent champion was Xander Schauffele, who edged out Bryson DeChambeau by one stroke at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The last nine winners have all been American, with Brooks Koepka claiming three titles during that span. The previous non-American was Australian Jason Day in 2015.

With five titles, Jack Nicklaus is the tournament\u2019s most decorated champion, tied with Walter Hagen, who also won five during the Match Play Era, including four consecutive wins between 1924 and 1927. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025 PGA Championship Top Contenders <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The golfer having the best year so far is Rory McIlroy, and he\u2019s the favorite to take home the title. He already has three victories in 2025, including the standout win at The Masters last month, completing the career Grand Slam. <\/strong>Now, he\u2019s aiming to win all four Majors this year.

But that\u2019s not all\u2014McIlroy, who also claimed the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and THE PLAYERS Championship this year, is no stranger to this course.He\u2019s won the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in 2010, 2015, 2021, and 2024, finished as runner-up once, and has had multiple Top 10 finishes here. He knows every yard of this course like the back of his hand.

Second on the list is a golfer who finally lifted the pressure of winning a title in 2025: Scottie Scheffler. After an incredible 2024 with seven victories, things hadn\u2019t been going his way this year\u2014until he won THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson a couple of weeks ago. <\/strong>

That win seemed to remove a heavy weight off his shoulders, especially with people questioning whether his past success was just luck. Before that, he had five Top 10 finishes in 2025, including a fourth-place finish at The Masters. He has four Top 10 finishes in five PGA Championship appearances, missing the cut only once. <\/strong>

Finally, we have to include Justin Thomas, a two-time PGA Championship winner. The American took home the trophy in 2017 and 2022, and finally celebrated another win after a three-year drought by triumphing at the RBC Heritage last month. <\/strong>

He\u2019s had a strong 2025, albeit with some frustration, recording three runner-up finishes\u2014the latest just last week, where he came up two strokes short of Sepp Straka at the Truist Championship. To top it all off, his first PGA Championship victory in 2017 came at this very course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025 PGA Championship Outside picks <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One golfer we can\u2019t leave out is Jordan Spieth. While he\u2019s not among the top favorites, he\u2019s had three Top 10 finishes this year, and inspired by McIlroy\u2019s Grand Slam pursuit, he\u2019ll be chasing the only Major missing from his collection.<\/strong> He came close to winning the PGA Championship in 2015 (2nd) and 2019 (3rd).

Bryson DeChambeau is one of those golfers who always makes headlines at the Majors. Currently playing on the LIV Tour, he won LIV Golf Korea earlier this month. He finished 5th at The Masters last month, has won the U.S. Open twice\u2014the most recent being last year\u2014and finished runner-up by just one stroke to Schauffele in the last year\u2019s PGA Championship.

Lastly, we have to mention the defending champion: Xander Schauffele. He hasn\u2019t had his best year and spent some time sidelined due to injury, but he finished 8th at The Masters a few weeks ago.<\/strong> And recently placed 11th at the Truist Championship. He\u2019s also been runner-up twice at the Wells Fargo Championship on this course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
