Vancouver Whitecaps are leading the Western Conference and are one of the best teams in MLS\u2014if not the best\u2014but they are currently going through a rough patch. Despite not having any big-name stars, they managed to reach the final of the CONCACAF Champions Cup, their first final outside the Canadian Championship, but were defeated 5-0 by Cruz Azul.

To make matters worse, several players returned from Mexico suffering from gastrointestinal issues, reportedly due to something they ate, and have been unable to train. Wednesday\u2019s practice was canceled, and Thursday\u2019s session was held behind closed doors, with only a few players training individually.

This is undoubtedly a big challenge for coach Jesper Sorensen, who\u2014on top of the illness-related absences\u2014is also missing nine players due to international call-ups: Ali Ahmed, Sam Adekugbe, and Jayden Nelson with Canada; Sebastian Berhalter and Brian White with the U.S.; Pedro Vite with Ecuador; Andr\u00e9s Cubas with Paraguay; Giuseppe Bovalina with Australia\u2019s U-23 squad; and Tate Johnson with the U.S. U-20 team.

In the MLS, the Canadian side has earned 32 points from nine wins, five draws, and just one loss. Considering they\u2019ve only played 15 matches (while most rivals have played 17), they boast the best points-per-game average.<\/strong> They sit just two points behind Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union and hold a two-point lead over San Diego FC in the West. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seattle Sounders are preparing for their upcoming participation in the Club World Cup. The 2022 CONCACAF Champions Cup winners are set to face Botafogo, Atl\u00e9tico Madrid, and PSG starting next week.

However, before that, they must overcome a test in MLS<\/a>. They currently sit fifth in the Western Conference with 26 points, following seven wins, five draws, and five losses.<\/strong> In their most recent match, they lost 3-2 at home to Minnesota United. On the road, their form has been inconsistent, with two wins, three draws, and four defeats.

Unlike their opponent, Seattle doesn\u2019t have significant absences due to international call-ups<\/strong>\u2014only two U.S. U-20 players and forward Osaze De Rosario, who is with Guyana. None of the three are regular starters and have only seen limited minutes this season.

Another piece of good news for head coach Brian Schmetzer is that Jes\u00fas Ferreira will be available again following the birth of his daughter. Additionally, Jordan Morris continues to train well and could make his return\u2014though the staff may choose to hold him back to ensure he\u2019s in top form for the Club World Cup. The 30-year-old U.S. international hasn\u2019t played since April 26 and has three goals in the tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
