This weekend marked Matchday 17 of the Brasileir\u00e3o, which brought a few surprises and a new leader, as Flamengo reclaimed the top spot they held before the Club World Cup.

The biggest upset came with Cear\u00e1\u2019s 2\u20131 away win over Cruzeiro, a result that allowed \u2018Meng\u00e3o\u2019 to return to first place after their 1\u20130 victory against Atl\u00e9tico Mineiro.

Palmeiras continues climbing the table, this time defeating Gr\u00eamio 1\u20130, while S\u00e3o Paulo secured a key 3\u20131 win over Fluminense in another major clash.

In a battle between struggling sides, Sport and Santos drew 2\u20132, a similar outcome to Botafogo and Corinthians, who finished 1\u20131.

Elsewhere, Fortaleza remains in the relegation zone but pulled off a 3\u20131 win over RB Bragantino, who have now dropped to fifth place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortaleza earned a crucial 3\u20131 victory over Red Bull Bragantino. While they remain in the relegation zone, they\u2019re now just one point away from climbing out.

The \u2018Le\u00e3o\u2019 took control early, opening the scoring in the 4th minute with a header from Deyverson off a corner kick. Fifteen minutes later, on the 19th, another corner\u2014this time from the opposite side\u2014led to a Matheus Pereira cross that Benjamin Kuscevic converted for a 2\u20130 lead.

In the 38th minute, a couple of mistakes from Fortaleza allowed Isidro Pitta to score a brilliant solo goal and reduce the deficit.

However, just three minutes into the second half, in the 48th minute, a defensive error from Bragantino resulted in a poor clearance by the goalkeeper. The ball fell to Lucca Prior, who slotted it into an open net for the final 3\u20131.

Fortaleza now has 14 points and sits in 18th place<\/strong>, just one point behind 16th. Meanwhile, RB Bragantino has now lost three straight games and gone four matches without a win<\/strong>, dropping to fifth in the standings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palmeiras continues to edge out narrow wins, and this weekend they defeated Gr\u00eamio 1\u20130 to move within four points of Flamengo, with a game in hand.

The match\u2019s only goal came from Uruguayan winger Facundo Torres, finishing off a long, well-worked team move with multiple passes. It was the \u2018Verd\u00e3o\u2019s\u2019 third straight win, each by just a one-goal margin.

With this victory, Abel Ferreira\u2019s side closes in on the top spot, while Gr\u00eamio, recently eliminated from the CONMEBOL Sudamericana, has now gone five matches without a win across all competitions\u2014losing three of them\u2014and has dropped to 14th place with 17 points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biggest surprise of the weekend came in Belo Horizonte, where former league leaders Cruzeiro suffered a 2\u20131 defeat to Cear\u00e1.

The home side took an early lead just four minutes in, with top scorer Kaio Jorge capitalizing on a major blunder by goalkeeper Bruno Ferreira, who mishit a pass and left an easy tap-in.

Despite the setback, the visitors didn\u2019t collapse. In the 39th minute, Antonio Galeano headed in the equalizer from a corner kick. The 25-year-old Paraguayan midfielder struck again in the 60th minute\u2014once more with a header\u2014to complete the comeback.

Cruzeiro pushed hard for another goal but couldn\u2019t break through, ending a 16-match unbeaten streak that included 11 wins. They now sit second, two points behind Flamengo, while Cear\u00e1 climbed to ninth with 21 points.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The game\u2019s only goal came in the 75th minute, when defender L\u00e9o Ortiz powered in a header from a Luiz Ara\u00fajo free kick.
