Matchday 9 of the Premier League brought plenty of surprises, allowing Arsenal to extend their lead at the top and leaving them with some unexpected challengers.

So far, everything seemed normal, but Chelsea lost at home to Sunderland (1-2), Liverpool fell to Brentford, and Aston Villa beat Manchester City 1-0.

These results allowed Bournemouth, who defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0, to climb up to second place in the standings.

The biggest surprise of the weekend came in London, where Sunderland defeated Chelsea 1-2, knocking them down to almost the middle of the table.

The match started favorably for the \u2018Blues\u2019, as Alejandro Garnacho scored his first goal for the club just four minutes in, breaking down the left side and firing a powerful shot under the goalkeeper.

The \u2018Black Cats\u2019 didn\u2019t back down and managed to equalize in the 22nd minute, with Wilson Isidor finishing from close range after a long throw-in and several deflections.

Chelsea pushed hard for the win, but in stoppage time (90+3\u2019), after a corner kick, the visitors launched a long counterattack. The ball fell to Brian Brobbey, who held it up, waited for support, and laid it off to Chemsdine Talbi, who calmly placed a beautiful finish for the 1-2.

With this result, Sunderland climbed to fourth place with 17 points, five behind Arsenal, while Chelsea dropped to ninth with 14 points.

Liverpool\u2019s struggles continue, as they fell 3-2 on the road against Brentford, marking their fourth straight defeat in the competition.

The \u2018Bees\u2019 opened the scoring just five minutes in after a long throw-in, a headed flick, and an acrobatic finish from Dango Ouattara to make it 1-0.

In the 45th minute, it was Kevin Schade\u2019s turn, running through on goal and finishing past the keeper after a brilliant pass from Mikkel Damsgaard.

However, before halftime, the \u2018Reds\u2019 pulled one back through Milos Kerkez, who scored his first goal for the club after a low cross from the right side.

Brentford extended their lead in the 60th minute with a penalty converted by Igor Thiago and held on until the 89th, when Mohamed Salah\u2019s right-footed strike made it 3-2.

With this result, the hosts move up to 11th place with 13 points, while Liverpool drops to seventh with 15.

Aston Villa\u2019s redemption run continues as they managed to stop Erling Haaland and defeat Manchester City 1-0.

The only goal of the match came in the 19th minute from Matty Cash. After a quick short corner, Emiliano Buend\u00eda switched play to the right-back, who cut inside and fired a stunning left-footed strike from the edge of the box.

The \u2018Citizens\u2019 tried from several angles but couldn\u2019t find the net, and Haaland\u2019s streak of 12 consecutive games scoring\u2014during which he netted 22 goals\u2014came to an end.

Aston Villa climbed to eighth place with 15 points, while Manchester City sits fourth with one point more.

Arsenal remain at the top of the Premier League and managed to extend their lead after a narrow 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

The only goal of the match came from Eberechi Eze, who was playing for Palace just a couple of months ago and scored his first Premier League goal for Arsenal. It was a karate-style kick from Eze after a loose ball in the box following a free kick.
