The Rays need outfielders, a catcher, a middle infielder, a starting pitcher, and bullpen help; a shopping list that reads like a rebuilding team rather than a division leader. Their World Series odds went from 16-1 preseason, out to the 100-1 range by midseason, and back to 22-1; tenth on the board. They are 53-50 and holding a Wild Card spot, and they flipped from sellers to buyers in the space of three weeks.

Teams that were lining up to trade for Aroldis Chapman, Garrett Whitlock, or Sonny Gray are out of luck. Boston needs help at first base or DH, in the middle infield, and in rotation depth. A team playing this well with this much momentum is exactly the kind of club nobody wants to draw in a Wild Card series. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
