The defending NFL Super Bowl champions will start Drew Lock on Sunday. Sam Darnold went down in the opener, and Seattle, who needed a 13-10 grind to beat New England, now travels to face the team that produced the upset of Week 1.

Arizona beat the Chargers 26-14 as a nine-and-a-half-point underdog. The line for their meeting with Seattle opened at -10<\/strong> and has already been bet down to -5.5<\/strong>, which is one of the largest moves on the board and tells you the market has changed to both pieces of news at once.

Elsewhere, Patrick Mahomes answered every question in a 31-10 win over Denver and now plays again on a short turnaround. The Rams lost in Melbourne and lost Myles Garrett for at least four weeks. And Buffalo opens a new stadium on Thursday night with the highest total of the week attached to it.

Buffalo opens its new stadium off the best offensive performance of Week 1 that did not involve Chicago. The Bills trailed in Houston and scored 36 points<\/strong> on the defence that finished last season first in the NFL in EPA per play, which is the sort of result that tells you more about the offence than the opponent. Detroit arrives 1-0 after edging New Orleans 31-30 at Ford Field.

The 53.5 total is the highest on the board,<\/strong> and it is the number worth thinking about rather than the side. Two good offences on a short week, in a building neither team has played a competitive down in, with the travelling side crossing a time zone: every one of those factors argues for fewer points than the market has priced. Buffalo should win a close one.

The line has moved further than any other this week, from -10 down to -5.5<\/strong>, and both reasons are legitimate. Sam Darnold is injured, and Drew Lock is expected to start<\/strong> for the defending champions. And Arizona just beat a team that was favoured by nine and a half points, at their place, by twelve.

Seattle’s defence remains the best unit in football, and it is the reason they are still road favourites without their starting quarterback; they won the opener 13-10 and won a Super Bowl 29-13 on the same formula. But a 41.5 total<\/strong> says nobody expects Lock to change the equation, and Arizona showed last week that Mike LaFleur’s side will not be run over.

Mahomes answered the question. Thirty-one points, a 21-point win over the club that took the AFC West last season by multiple games, and no visible hesitation on a rebuilt knee. The right tackle position remains unsettled; Denver simply never made it matter.

The wrinkle is the calendar.<\/strong> Kansas City played Monday night and now plays again on Sunday: a short turnaround for a quarterback six days into his comeback. Indianapolis arrives 0-1 after losing 41-23 at home to Baltimore, with Daniel Jones still working back from a torn Achilles and no clarity at the position.

The Colts are not winning this on talent. But 6.5 points against a team on short rest, with an offensive line question that has not yet been asked, is a friendlier spot than -290<\/strong> suggests.

The most mispriced game on the board. Los Angeles is 0-1 after a 27-7<\/strong> defeat to San Francisco at the MCG, and they will be without Myles Garrett for at least four weeks<\/strong>; the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, signed specifically to make this roster complete, lost after one game.

New York arrive 1-0. John Harbaugh beat Dallas 28-20<\/strong> on Sunday night in his first game in charge, with three injured starting cornerbacks and a quarterback carrying a durability record. That is a coaching upgrade producing results immediately.

The Rams remain the better roster and are desperate to avoid 0-2. They are also laying seven and a half points without their best defender, at home, off a blowout loss, to a side that just won on the road. Getting the Giants at nearly 3-to-1 is the value of the week.<\/strong>

Prediction: Rams 24-20 Giants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rest of the Slate in One Line<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

San Francisco -12.5 over Miami<\/strong> is the largest spread of the week, and the Dolphins’ teardown already looks exactly as painful as a 4.5-win total implied.

Three home underdogs<\/strong>: the Jets against Green Bay, Tennessee against Philadelphia and Arizona against Seattle. New York won on the road last week; Arizona beat a nine-point favourite. Two of those three are live.

Washington at Dallas<\/strong> carries a 50.5<\/strong> total, second-highest of the week, with the Cowboys -4.5 after losing in New York. Saints at Ravens<\/strong> is the largest total of the early slate at 48.5, with Baltimore -8.5 off a 41-point opener.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
