Miguel Arturo Lay\u00fan Prado<\/strong> is a Mexican football player who was born in C\u00f3rdoba, Veracruz, Mexico<\/strong>, on June 25, 1988. He is 32 years old and currently plays as a right-back for Club de Futbol Monterrey<\/strong>, a team that belongs to the first division of the Mexican Soccer League<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miguel Lay\u00fan\u2019s Professional Career<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miguel Lay\u00fan <\/strong>began his professional soccer career with his local team Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz<\/strong>. During his time with Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz he played a total of 31 games without scoring a single goal for 2 years. His debut in professional soccer <\/strong>occurred on March 28, 2007, entering the second half of his team’s match against Necaxa<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lay\u00fan<\/strong> made history on September 27, 2009 when he made his debut with<\/strong> Atalanta<\/strong>, a team belonging to the Italian Serie A<\/strong>. In this match, Miguel<\/strong> entered in the 82nd minute and became the first Mexican<\/strong> to play for a Serie A<\/strong> club. The match resulted in a 1-1 draw against Chievo Verona<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a year in Italy, Lay\u00fan<\/strong> made a surprise return to Mexican soccer<\/strong> to play the 2010 Bicentennial tournament<\/strong> with \u00c1guilas del Am\u00e9rica<\/strong>. He played for Am\u00e9rica<\/strong> for 4 years, and his most important achievement during this time was the poker scored against Santos Laguna<\/strong> in the 2014 opening tournament, as well as being team captain which allowed him to lift the 2014 Apertura Tournament Champion trophy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On January 9, 2015, his 4-and-a-half-year contract signing was announced for Watford Football Club<\/strong>, a team that belongs to the Premier League<\/strong>. During his first year, Lay\u00fan<\/strong> was a fundamental pillar in the rise of Watford<\/strong> to the first division of English football<\/strong>. On August 8, 2015, he made his Premier League<\/strong> debut scoring a goal for Everton<\/strong> in Liverpool<\/strong> on the road. The match ended 1-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When everything seemed on track for Lay\u00fan<\/strong> in the Premier League<\/strong>, he was loaned to FC Porto<\/strong> on August 31, 2015, with an option to buy. Lay\u00fan<\/strong> played a total of 2 years with the Portuguese team, and on January 29, 2018, his session at Sevilla FC<\/strong> of the Spanish soccer league became official. In Sevilla, Lay\u00fan<\/strong> played a total of 18 games and scored 2 goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 11, 2018, he announced his signing for Villareal<\/strong>, a team where he had almost no opportunities. After 6 months of almost inactivity, Lay\u00fan<\/strong> decided to return to Mexican soccer. On January 30, 2019<\/strong>, he transferred to his current team Monterrey. Lay\u00fan<\/strong> became one of the best players within the team for the closing of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mexico National Team<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2013, Miguel Lay\u00fan<\/strong> was called up by Jose Manuel de la Torre<\/strong> for the first time to play on Mexico’s senior team<\/strong>. From then on, he has participated in each of the tournaments played by the Mexican soccer team, which include the Gold Cup<\/strong> and the Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018<\/strong> FIFA World Cups.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
