The Metropolitan Handicap<\/strong>, commonly known as the \u201cMet Mile<\/strong>\u201d in the horse racing world, is a race in which thoroughbred<\/strong> horses of 3 years and older <\/strong>compete at a distance of 1 mile. This is a Grade I race<\/strong> and takes place in Elmont, New York<\/strong>, on the same day as the Belmont Stakes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Metropolitan Handicap<\/strong> is one of the most prestigious North American horse races outside of the Triple Crown and the Breeders Cup<\/strong>. This race is also generally known as the \u201cstud production race<\/strong>\u201d as the distance to be covered is 1 mile. This shows the ability of horses to respond at this distance, which they call “brilliance<\/strong>.” Several of the winners of this competition have become extremely important stallions in the world of horse racing such as Tom Fool, Native Dancer, Buckpasser, Fappiano, Gulch, and Ghostzapper.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This race has a large prize pool of $1.2 Million<\/strong> and has been on the equestrian calendar since 1891.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winning horses of this race can participate in the upcoming events of world equestrianism, and will be considered some of the leading contenders in these races. Among the races to look forward to is the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile<\/strong> which will take place in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
