On Tuesday, July 13, the first day of the Gold Cup will come to an end when the two matches in Group D will be played. One of them is between Qatar and Panama, a match that will be the official debut of the Asians in the CONCACAF competition. As mentioned before, for the Qataris it will be their first appearance, in this case as a guest country, in the Central and North American competition along with the Caribbean countries. While the Panamanians will not only be playing for the tenth time in the Gold Cup but will be doing so for the ninth consecutive time, knowing that in 2005 and 2013 they managed to be finalists of the champion United States. Qatar and Panama will face each other on Tuesday, July 13. The duel between both teams is scheduled for 18:00 E.T. and will take place at the BBVA Stadium in Houston, and will be televised by Fox Sports, Univision, and TUDN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 How both teams are coming into the competition?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Panama: <\/strong>The Panamanians have played a lot of international games this year (eight), so they shouldn’t be rusty on Tuesday, but they have struggled to create many quality scoring chances of late, going scoreless in their last two games without registering a shot against Mexico. However, they are entering a competition they are very familiar with and have been very successful in the early stages of this tournament, losing only one game in the group stage since 2011. While they lost all three of their World Cup matches in 2018, that appearance brought a lot of global attention to the nation. Only nine players from their World Cup team were selected by new boss Thomas Christiansen <\/strong>for this tournament, showing that this team is undergoing changes with so many players playing competitively at the club level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qatar: <\/strong>As invitees to this competition, Qatar will get a first-hand look at how CONCACAF teams play, information that could be extremely valuable with the World Cup scheduled for next year. This competition will serve as a good tune-up for their big moment on the international stage when they host the World Cup in 2022, and they will be keen to prove that although they did not have to qualify for the Gold Cup, they deserve to play against the best teams in this region. Manager Felix Sanchez has selected a squad comprised of 23 players currently appearing at club level in Qatar with Al-Sadd, Al-Duhail, Al-Gharafa, and one player representing Al-Rayyan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
