The first week of the 2025/26 NFL season did not disappoint and made it clear that this year will be marked by parity and surprises.
From intense divisional matchups to unexpected victories, the league opened with clashes that are already shaping narratives.
One of the most talked-about results was the Chargers’ victory over the Chiefs (27-21), a show of force in the AFC West that reignites the eternal debate about whether Kansas City is still as dominant as in recent years. In the NFC East, the Eagles beat the Cowboys 24-20 in a physical game, cementing their status as contenders from the outset.
The day also provided high-voltage excitement, such as the battle between the Bills and Ravens (41-40), an offensive duel that was decided in the final seconds and reaffirmed Buffalo’s aerial power against a Baltimore team that failed to close out a game that seemed to be in their hands. In contrast, there were dominant and uneventful victories, such as the Colts’ 33-8 win over the Dolphins, leaving Miami with more questions than answers at the start. In addition, teams such as the Packers (27-13 over the Lions) and Commanders (21-6 over the Giants) showed strength in games that could set the tone within their divisions.
Eagles vs. Cowboys:
The start of the 2025 NFL season took an unexpected turn when the opening game between defending champions the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys was interrupted by a thunderstorm in the vicinity of Lincoln Financial Field. The situation forced authorities and the league to prioritize the safety of players and fans, calling a halt to the game in the middle of the third quarter, when the score was 24-20 in favor of the home team. The total delay lasted approximately one hour, enough time for tension to build both on and off the field, before the action could continue in a season opener that was as eventful as it was exciting.
Chargers vs. Chiefs:
The start of the 2025 season in São Paulo produced one of the most striking surprises of the opening day: the Kansas City Chiefs’ defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers at Neo Química Arena.
With Patrick Mahomes at the helm, many expected a solid debut from the reigning title contenders. However, the night ended up belonging to Justin Herbert and Cameron Dicker, who led the Angels to a convincing 27-21 victory.
Seahawks vs. 49ers:
The San Francisco 49ers kicked off the 2025/26 season with a hard-fought victory at Lumen Field, where they managed to beat the Seattle Seahawks 17-13. The score reflected how close the game was, with the home team controlling most of the play, spurred on by their fans. However, solid defense and a timely finish allowed the Californians to come away with the victory in a hostile environment.
Bills vs. Ravens:
The Buffalo Bills kicked off their 2025 NFL season with a spectacular comeback that was decided on the final play. With the clock at zero, Matt Prater converted a 32-yard field goal to seal a 41-40 victory, capping an epic comeback after trailing by 16 points. The matchup revived memories of last year’s divisional series in the playoffs, but this time it was the New Yorkers who came away with the victory.
After some surprises in the season opener, we head into Week 2 of the NFL with big games and teams still finding their identity.
The round will kick off on Thursday with the Green Bay Packers hosting the Washington Commanders in a clash of winning teams.
Last year’s Super Bowl will be repeated as the Kansas City Chiefs host the reigning champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.
In a divisional matchup, the Detroit Lions will face the Chicago Bears, both in search of their first win, while the Buffalo Bills will visit the New York Jets.

The Green Bay Packers had a great start to the season, comfortably defeating one of their direct NFC North rivals and contenders, the Detroit Lions, 27-13. It was a strong defensive performance with Evan Williams recording an interception in the end zone, and Jordan Love throwing two touchdowns.
On the Washington Commanders’ side, they also came out victorious in their opener, crushing the New York Giants 21-6, holding their opponent to just two field goals. Jayden Daniels threw for 233 yards and a touchdown, while rookie Jacory Merritt scored his first career touchdown, along with former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, also finding the end zone.

The Detroit Lions were caught off guard in their opener, not only falling 27-13 to the Green Bay Packers but also being thoroughly outplayed. Jared Goff had a solid game, completing 31 of 39 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown to rookie Isaac TeSlaa. However, the quarterback was intercepted once, on one of those game-changing plays.
For the Chicago Bears, they are trying to turn around the negative image they left last year, but it all started the same way. They lost at home 27-24 to the Minnesota Vikings after allowing 21 points in the fourth quarter. It wasn’t the most efficient day for Caleb Williams, who completed 21 of 35 passes for 210 yards and one touchdown through the air, plus another on the ground.

It wasn’t the start the New York Jets were hoping for, as a late field goal with one minute remaining allowed the Pittsburgh Steelers to come back and win 32-34 at MetLife Stadium.
A tough loss for Aaron Glenn’s squad, whose best player was Justin Fields. The quarterback completed 16 of 22 passes for 218 yards and one touchdown through the air, while also scoring two on the ground in his 12 rushing attempts.
Without a doubt, the story of Matt Prater has already gone around the world. The Buffalo Bills beat the Baltimore Ravens 41-40 with a game-winning field goal from Prater on the final play. The 41-year-old kicker was at home just days ago, working as an assistant coach for his son’s team, when he got the call to replace the injured Tyler Bass.
In addition to Prater’s 11 points, it was an outstanding performance from Josh Allen, who completed 33 of 46 passes for 394 yards, two touchdowns through the air, and two more on the ground in his 14 rushing attempts.
