Desafío Charles Schwab 2025

We’re coming off the PGA Championship, and the recent champion, Scottie Scheffler, is heading to the Charles Schwab Challenge, which will take place practically in his backyard at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, from May 22 to 25.

The course is a par 70 and measures 7,209 yards. It will host the tournament for the 79th time, making it the longest-running host of a regular Tour event. One unique feature of this tournament is the Champion’s Choice Invitation, where former champions get to invite two young golfers to compete.

Since it falls right after a Major and just before a Signature Event, most top golfers will be taking a break. However, five of the world’s top 20 will be playing, including world No. 1 Scheffler. American Davis Riley is the defending champion.

2025 Charles Schwab Challenge Top Contenders

There’s not much analysis needed to know Scottie Scheffler is the main favorite to win this weekend. After a year filled with strong performances but no victories, the American finally started lifting trophies.

He finished second at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, then placed fourth at the Masters, eighth at the RBC Heritage, and finally secured first place at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. He won at home, in Texas, shaking off the pressure—and he did it in style, winning the PGA Championship just a couple of weeks later, the third Major of his career.

Now he’s back in Texas at Colonial Country Club, where he’s been knocking on the door: runner-up in 2022 (losing in a playoff) and 2024, and third in 2023. That’s three straight podium finishes. With the momentum he’s riding, this might finally be his year here.

Another contender and top-20 golfer in the field is Tommy Fleetwood. The Englishman is still searching for his first PGA Tour title, and 2025 might be the year. While he didn’t perform well at the PGA Championship—finishing 41st—he had a seventh-place finish at the RBC Heritage and was fourth at the Truist Championship earlier this year.

He’s played this course twice before but struggled both times, finishing 35th at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge and missing the cut in 2023.

Lastly, there’s Harris English. The winner of the Farmers Insurance Open back in late January, he’s coming off a second-place finish at the PGA Championship, thanks to a stellar final round of 65—the best score of the day.

This will be his tenth time playing at Colonial. While he missed the cut last year, he was runner-up in 2016 and finished fifth in 2012.

2025 Charles Schwab Challenge Outside picks

Jordan Spieth is another golfer among the favorites to win this weekend, mainly because he already won this tournament back in 2016. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship but has recorded three Top-10 finishes so far in 2025, the most recent being a fourth place at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson.

American Maverick McNealy, also ranked within the top 20, has come close to claiming a title this year. He was runner-up at The Genesis Invitational and finished third at the Valero Texas Open and the RBC Heritage. McNealy also has two other top-10 finishes. He has played this tournament six times, with his best result being a 17th-place finish last year.

One of the winners this season is Hideki Matsuyama. The Japanese golfer took home the title at The Sentry, the first tournament of the year, but hasn’t performed well since. He hasn’t recorded another top-10 finish in 2025 and is coming off a missed cut at the PGA Championship.
