NFL: ¿Qué equipos están listos para sorprender?

Seven teams are stacked at a 10.5-win total this season: the Bills, Chiefs, Eagles, Lions, Packers, 49ers, and Seahawks, with Baltimore and the Rams above them at 11.5. That is where the money is.

Surprises do not come from there. They come from the NFL teams priced at 5.5 and 7.5, where a modest improvement produces a large return, and from the clubs handed a schedule nobody noticed.

Here are five teams the market has underrated, and one everybody else is picking that we are not.

1. Dallas Cowboys

The most organised team of the entire preseason, and almost nobody is treating it as meaningful.

Dallas went 2-0, beating Seattle 17-7 with 338 total yards and 11 of 15 on third down, then routing Arizona 34-13 while outgaining them 418 to 320. Joe Milton went 9 of 13 for 176 yards with three total touchdowns and settled the backup job in one night.

The underlying case is stronger than the exhibition results. Dallas finished top five in scoring and yards per play last season: the offence was never the issue. The problem was a defence that was genuinely bad, and the offseason was spent fixing it. People around the league believe the improvement is real.

Why they surprise: an elite offence that never went away, plus the one unit that was dragging them down finally addressed. They rose eleven places in our power rankings for a reason.

The risk: the same one as every recent Dallas season. The offence has to carry it, and January has a habit of arriving early in Texas.

2. New Orleans Saints

The most under-discussed schedule advantage in football.

New Orleans has one of the three easiest schedules in the league, alongside Cleveland and Cincinnati. That is worth a game or two on its own, and it lands on a team that finished 2025 by winning four of its final five.

Kellen Moore surprised people in his first season. His three most important players- Chris Olave, Travis Etienne Jr., and Tyler Shough- are all healthy heading into Week 1, which is more than most teams in this range can say.

Why they surprise: a young roster that was trending upward when last season ended, with the softest run of fixtures available to them.

The risk: the injury list is real. Rookie receiver Jordyn Tyson will miss around two months with a hamstring problem, Bryan Bresee is believed to have torn an ACL, and Dillon Radunz is gone for the year. The margin is thin.

3. Indianapolis Colts

A 7.5-win total on a team whose quarterback keeps looking better than expected.

Daniel Jones has impressed throughout his return from the Achilles injury, including in joint practice work against Atlanta. That is the entire season in one sentence. The last time Jones came back from a major injury, his play deteriorated badly, and he was eventually benched. This time the early evidence points the other way.

Behind him, Anthony Richardson Sr. and rookie Riley Leonard have been competing hard for the backup role, which has kept the quarterback room sharp rather than complacent.

Why they surprise: the roster improved meaningfully in the offseason, and the market has not fully priced a healthy, functional Jones.

The risk: receiver Alec Pierce signed a $114 million extension in March and has yet to practise following ankle surgery. If he is not available early, the offence loses its most expensive weapon.

4. Las Vegas Raiders

The most interesting 5.5-win team in the league.

Las Vegas finished with the worst record in football and took Fernando Mendoza first overall. He threw for 3,535 yards and 41 touchdowns last season while winning both the Heisman and a national title, then posted a 100.3 passer rating in his only preseason appearance: 10 of 16 for 97 yards and a touchdown.

Klint Kubiak has been clear that Kirk Cousins starts. Our position has not changed: a team going nowhere in October has no reason to protect a veteran’s job, and Mendoza starts before Week 6.

The defence also added several proven veterans in free agency, which is the quiet part of this rebuild.

Why they surprise: at 5.5 wins, they need only to be mediocre to beat the number. A functional rookie quarterback in a Kubiak system gets them there.

The risk: Ashton Jeanty sprained his ankle at practice and left the field unable to put weight on it. He appears to have avoided anything serious, but rookie Mike Washington Jr. (119 yards on 15 preseason carries) may be carrying more than planned.

5. New York Giants

The roster has been quietly assembled. The health has not cooperated.

John Harbaugh is a significant upgrade at head coach, Malik Nabers is back and on track for Week 1 after his ACL tear, and Jaxson Dart has a year of experience in a young offence with a respectable defence around it.

Why they surprise: of every team in this range, the Giants have the highest ceiling if the injuries clear. Harbaugh alone is worth wins.

The risk: it is a long list. All three starting cornerbacks have missed practice, Roy Robertson-Harris tore his Achilles and is out for the season, and centre John Michael Schmitz has been in concussion protocol. Dart has also been to the medical tent in 43% of his career starts, which is the number that should worry New York most.

The One Everybody Else Is Picking

Halcones de Atlanta. They won eight games in 2025, closed the season on a four-game winning streak, and appear on more than one national list of teams positioned to break out.

We are not picking them for two reasons.

Jalon Walker tore his ACL in training camp and is out for the season. Atlanta drafted him to be a foundation piece on defence, and there is no replacement on the roster.

The quarterback situation is unresolved. Michael Penix Jr.’s knee has kept him out of full team work, Tua Tagovailoa has taken the majority of reps in the new offence, and the current administration did not draft Penix and is not committed to him. A team that does not know who is starting in September is not a breakout candidate.

The four-game winning streak was real. The roster that produced it is not intact.

The Schedule Factor Nobody Discusses

Strength of schedule is the most reliable forecaster of a surprise season and the least discussed.

Easiest slates: Cleveland, Cincinnati, and New Orleans. Two of those are rebuilding, which makes the Saints’ position unusually valuable: a team with genuine talent and the softest run of games available.

Hardest slates: Chicago, Miami, and Green Bay. That is a serious problem for the Bears in particular, who already lost Coby Bryant for four to six months and have unresolved issues at left tackle. Any Chicago breakout narrative should be read against that.

What Would Have to Happen

Dallas needs the defensive improvement to be real rather than an August illusion. The evidence is promising and unproven.

Nueva Orleans needs to convert the soft schedule into wins before the injuries compound. September and October are everything.

Indianápolis needs Daniel Jones to keep looking like this. Nothing else about their season matters as much.

Las Vegas needs Mendoza on the field. The sooner it happens, the better their number looks.

Nueva York needs a healthy secondary and a quarterback who stays upright.

The pattern is consistent. None of these five needs to be great. They need to be functional in the areas that broke them last season, and they are all priced as though that is unlikely.

The season opens on September 9.
