Favorites to win the 2023 Dubai World Cup

The $12 million Dubai World Cup will kick off Saturday at the brand-new Meydan racecourse in the United Arab Emirates with 15 horses, eight of which are Japanese.

Japanese horse Panthalassa, ridden by Yutaka Koshida and trained by Yoshito Yagahi, recently won the Saudi Cup, run on Saturday, February 25, at the King Abdulaziz Racecourse. Panthalassa was unchallenged from start to finish.

American Country Grammer, who partnered with him in his previous race and will now seek revenge and his second consecutive victory in a sand track race at 2,000 meters, will undoubtedly be one of his main contenders.

Café Pharoah, the third-place finisher in the Saudi Cup and one of the top long-distance runners, is among the likely contenders. He is the son of a three-time champion American Pharoah.

Emblem Road, a Quality Road that finished sixth in the last edition of the race in February and won the 2022 Saudi Cup, is also among the entries. In addition, Japanese horse Crown Pride, fifth in the Saudi Cup and second in the Nippon TV Hai at Funabashi, the JBC Classic at Morioka, and the Champions Cup at Chukyo, all held in Japan, will be another contender. Crown Pride has a record of three wins in nine starts.
