Real Madrid sit alone at the top after another narrow win, this time 1-2 away against Real Sociedad.

Their closest chasers are the two Barcelona teams: the ‘Culés’ crushed Valencia 6-0, while Espanyol, the big surprise of this start, defeated Mallorca 3-2.

One of the teams that had a perfect record, Athletic Club, was stunned at home by Alavés, who beat them 0-1, while Atlético Madrid finally claimed their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Villarreal.

LaLiga Matchday 4 Roundup: Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid rolled up their sleeves and defeated Real Sociedad 1-2 away, despite playing an hour with a man down.

Things started well after a poor pass from the defense that Kylian Mbappé took advantage of with his speed to reach the ball and finish neatly for the 0-1 in the 12th minute.

In the 32nd minute, things got complicated for the ‘Merengues’ when a foul by Dean Huijsen near midfield was deemed a red card after the referee ruled the defender was the last man.

Despite that, Arda Güler managed to extend the lead before halftime after a brilliant individual play by Mbappé, who has been the star of this start to the season.

The home side pulled one back in the 56th minute through a Mikel Oyarzabal penalty, but it wasn’t enough, and they were left empty-handed at home.

One of the big surprises of the weekend was Alavés’ 0-1 away victory over Athletic Club, a team expected to be fighting relegation, against an opponent that came in with a perfect record.

The only goal of the match came in the 57th minute from a corner kick, when a Denis Suárez cross deflected off Álex Berenguer’s foot and changed trajectory, ending up in his own net.

The ‘Rojiblancos’ had their chances, but poor finishing and some fine saves by Antonio Sivera secured the win for Eduardo Coudet’s side, who are now seventh with seven points.

As for Bilbao, they dropped to fourth place with nine units.

Atlético Madrid finally shook off their poor run and defeated Villarreal 2-0, earning their first victory of the tournament.

After a defensive mistake, Julián Álvarez delivered a brilliant pass to Pablo Barrios, who finished first-time at the near post to make it 1-0 in the ninth minute.

In the second half, Nico González, playing his first match since arriving from Juventus, opened his account with a header off a Marcos Llorente cross to put the ‘Colchoneros’ up 2-0.

The ‘Submarino Amarillo’, who came in unbeaten, had several chances, the best being a free kick from Nicolas Pépé that struck the post. They couldn’t close the gap and went home with the loss.

Atlético Madrid now sit 11thwith five points, while Villarreal are sixthwith seven.

Barcelona, without Lamine Yamal, faced one of its favorite victims in recent years, Valencia, and crushed them 6-0 with braces from Fermín López, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski.

After a tight first half, where the only goal came from Fermín following a nice collective play, things changed in the second half with the entrance of Raphinha.

The Brazilian scored the second goal from a Marcus Rashford assist, the Englishman’s first, while Fermín struck a stunning shot from outside the box to make it 3-0. Raphinha appeared again in the 66th minute, pouncing on a rebound to score the fourth.

In the 68th minute, Lewandowski came onto the field at the Estadi Johan Cruyff and took advantage by scoring twice in 15 minutes. These were the Polish striker’s first goals of the season.

Barcelona now sit second with 10 points and 13 goals scored, boasting the best attack. Valencia, meanwhile, is 15th with just four points.
