A new week in MLS has wrapped up, and while there weren’t major changes at the top of the standings, there were some surprises that show just how exciting this league can be.
Philadelphia Union remains at the top despite drawing at home against Toronto FC, as Cincinnati failed to take advantage of the opportunity and lost at home to Charlotte.
In the West, San Diego FC extended their lead to four points after a 2-0 away win over Kansas City, coupled with Vancouver Whitecaps’ loss on the road to San Jose Earthquakes.
In the Florida derby, Orlando City defeated Inter Miami 4-1, with the visitors missing Lionel Messi due to injury.

MLS Matchday 26: Philadelphia vs. Toronto

Philadelphia Union missed a great opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the MLS standings after drawing 1-1 with Toronto FC.
The home side took the lead early and seemed headed for an easy match against one of the league’s weakest teams. Just four minutes in, a brilliant team play ended with Tai Baribo switching the ball to Indiana Vassilev, who was left unmarked. After advancing a few meters, he finished with a low, angled shot to make it 1-0.
Both teams created chances, and in stoppage time, in the 90+1 minute, DeAndre Kerr equalized with a superb header off a Malik Henry cross, sealing the 1-1 result.
Now, thanks to Cincinnati’s loss, the Union remain atop both the MLS. overall standings and the Eastern Conference with 51 points, two ahead of the Ohio side, while Toronto sits 12th with 22 points.
MLS Matchday 26: St. Louis vs. Nashville

One of the weekend’s surprises took place at Energizer Park, where St. Louis defeated Nashville 3-1, delivering a heavy blow to their hopes of reaching the top of the East.
The home side was clinical and managed to set the tone in the first half. In the 23rd minute, Jaziel Orozco struck a powerful angled shot off a corner kick, and in the 39th minute, João Klauss doubled the lead with another angled finish, this time from the right side.
In the second half, St. Louis pressed high on Nashville’s buildup, and after a save from Joe Willis, Simon Becher managed to get a second attempt on goal. Although his effort was awkward, it fortunately found the head of Sang-bin Jeong, who nodded it in to make it 3-0.
The ‘Coyotes’ pulled one back in the 85th minute through a Hany Mukhtar penalty. The German midfielder now has 12 goals and five assists this season.
With the loss, Nashville dropped to third place in the East, four points behind Philadelphia, while St. Louis remains second-to-last in the West with 21 points, 11 away from the Play-In zone.

San Diego FC continues its outstanding season, this time defeating Sporting Kansas City 0-2 on the road to maintain the lead in the Western Conference.
Danish star Anders Dreyer remains one of the league’s standout performers, scoring one goal and assisting the other in this match, bringing his totals to 12 goals and 15 assists.
The opener was a stunner from Hirving Lozano. The Mexican forward slid in to win back a ball, which landed at Dreyer’s feet. He returned it to ‘Chucky’, who fired from mid-range, lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper for the 0-1 lead.
In the second half, Dreyer pounced on a rebound and slotted a low, angled shot inside the post from the edge of the box to make it 0-2, sealing San Diego’s fifth straight away victory.
With this win, San Diego moves up to 49 points, leading the West and sitting just two points behind Philadelphia Union overall, while Kansas City is 13th with 24 points.

Orlando City delivered a statement performance in front of their home fans, dismantling Inter Miami 4-1 in a heated Florida derby. The Lions capitalized on Miami’s defensive frailties and lack of cohesion without some of their key starters.Despite boasting attacking talent, Inter Miamifailed to find rhythm and struggled to contain Orlando’s aggressive high press and quick transitions.
Orlando wasted no time imposing their dominance. Facundo Torres opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a composed finish after a defensive lapse from Miami. Martin Ojeda doubled the lead at the 27th minute, curling a precise shot into the far corner. Inter Miami responded through Leonardo Campana, who pulled one back in the 34th minute. However, Orlando regained control before halftime, with Duncan Mcguire.
