The NFL is the sport of choice in American society, and the big news for its fans is that the wait will finally be over on September 4 with the game between the reigning champion, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Dallas Cowboys.

It promises to be an exciting season, with major franchise changes, rookies eager to make an impact, and the mission of surpassing last year’s electrifying campaign.

The road to Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, is about to begin.

El torneo

As mentioned, the season kicks off on September 4 with the Eagles-Cowboys matchup. The regular season concludes the week of January 4, while the playoffs begin on January 10. The grand stage of American sports, the Super Bowl, will take place on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers.

The format remains the same: the American and National conferences each have 16 teams. Every franchise will play 17 regular-season games over the course of 18 weeks. Each conference will qualify seven teams for the Playoffs—the four division winners plus three Wild Cards.

The Playoffs include the Super Wild Card round, Divisional round, Conference Championships, and the Super Bowl.

For this season, the recent rule adjustments remain in place: the change to the kickoff, the guarantee that each team will have at least one possession in overtime regardless of whether the opponent scores a touchdown, instant replay, and the use of a virtual measurement system.

Among the contract extensions, it is worth noting that the Buffalo Bills locked in quarterback Josh Allen for six years at $300 million, the Carolina Panthers made cornerback Jaycee Horn the highest-paid at his position with a four-year, $100 million deal, quarterback Justin Fields will continue for two more years with the New York Jets for $40 million, and Sam Darnold will stay with the Seattle Seahawks for three years at $100.5 million.

The biggest move in recent hours came with defensive end Micah Parsons being traded to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round picks. Parsons will earn $62 million in the first year and has $120 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Quarterback Geno Smith moved from the Halcones Marinos de Seattle to the Las Vegas Raiders, Deebo Samuel was traded to the Washington Commanders, and DK Metcalf was dealt to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Best picks

It is clear that in the NFL, expectations are centered on what Cam Ward can do, as he was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft by the Tennessee Titans. At the college level, he stood out with the Miami Hurricanes, and last year, he won the Davey O’Brien Award, which recognizes the best quarterback in the NCAA.

Travis Hunter was the No. 2 pick and will play for the Jaguares de Jacksonville. He captured the Heisman Trophy after being recognized as the most impactful player in college football.

Defensive end Abdul Carter rounded out the top three of the draft, being selected by the New York Giants.

Other rookies to watch include offensive tackle Will Campbell (New England Patriots), defensive tackle Mason Graham (Cleveland Browns), running back Omarion Hampton (Los Angeles Chargers), and cornerback Jahdae Barron (Denver Broncos).

Candidates

The main favorites to win the NFL this year are the Philadelphia Eagles, the reigning champions, and the Baltimore Ravens, who may finally be poised for the glory year they’ve been chasing.

The Eagles have an elite quarterback in Jalen Hurts and one of the league’s top defenses. However, they must break a 20-year streak in which no team from the NFC East has repeated as champions.

The Ravens have won their division in back-to-back seasons and are the clear favorites to win the AFC. They feature quarterback Lamar Jackson, a perennial MVP candidate, and Derrick Henry, who remains at the peak of his position.

Closing out the top three contenders are the always-dangerous Kansas City Chiefs, with Patrick Mahomes—the best player of the decade—and a roster with the experience to handle high-pressure moments. Their goal is to reclaim the throne they lost in last season’s Super Bowl.

Surprise teams

The Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Washington Commanders can’t really be considered surprises after what they showed last season, which is why we’ll turn to the Green Bay Packers.

It’s not just that they pulled off an aggressive trade for Micah Parsons, but they also worked to address one of their biggest weaknesses from last year—dropped passes.

Jordan Love is a strong quarterback, and the only real question mark is how this team’s defense will perform in this NFL Season.

The Los Angeles Rams could also be a surprise contender. Despite having plenty of talent, their quarterback, Matthew Stafford, has been dealing with back issues.
