Six totals and six spreads have moved since Tuesday. Eight totals have not moved at all, and one of those is the NFL game with nine questionable players on one roster.

What Has Moved Since Tuesday

Cleveland-Pittsburgh at 39.5 remains the lowest total of the week and has not moved off its opening number.Kansas City-Denver at 40.5 and Philadelphia-Washington at 40.5 are next.Arizona-Dallas and Baltimore-Buffalo are tied as the highest at 54.5.

Ravens at Bills: The One That Matters

Lamar Jackson: Questionable, ankle.

That is the official designation, and it is the entire market in this game. Jackson suffered a high ankle sprain in Week 4 against Tennessee and has missed three games, with Tyler Huntley going 1-2 as the starter and Baltimore scoring zero second-half points in each of the last two.

A word on how to read the listing. The injury feed carries a return date of 1 November against Jackson’s name, which is simply the date of the game rather than a prognosis. Kansas City scored three points in Seattle last week: Patrick Mahomes threw for 165 yards on 33 attempts, and his leading receivers were Noah Gray and Kelce with 44 yards each. Losing either of the two names above makes that number harder rather than easier to explain away.

They are also down Omarr Norman-Lott for the season with an ACL, with L’Jarius Sneed questionable at corner and Jaylon Moore questionable with a concussion.

We flagged two early-week items on Tuesday and said Wednesday would settle them. It has.

Aaron Jones Sr. is officially questionable with a knee.Amon-Ra St. Brown is listed active; the ankle report did not become a designation.

Detroit has a different problem.Kerby Joseph is out with a knee injury, which removes a starting safety against a Minnesota side that has conceded 12.33 points a game, the best mark in the league.

Neither the spread nor the total has moved: Detroit -3, total 46.5.The model still prefers Minnesota by 5.2 points against the market, and losing a starting safety is not an argument against that.

The total has fallen six points from 46.5 open to 40.5, and Washington has gone from -5.5 to -6 since Tuesday.

Chargers at Rams: Four Absences and a Total That Went the Wrong Way

The Rams are without Davante Adams (hamstring, IR until 25 November) and Myles Garrett (knee, IR), with Terrance Ferguson also on IR and Trent McDuffie questionable with a groin.

The Chargers are worse off.Derwin James Jr. is doubtful with a hamstring, Ladd McConkey is questionable with a concussion, Tre’ Harris and Donte Jackson are questionable with hamstrings, and Denzel Perryman is on IR. The Chargers are 0-6.

The total opened at 48.5, fell four points to 44.5 by Tuesday, and has since gone back up a point to 45.5.Adams and Garrett being ruled out should push a total down, not up: the honest reading is that the Chargers’ secondary problems are being priced as more consequential than the Rams’ absences, and a doubtful All-Pro safety plus a concussed slot receiver on an 0-6 team is a defensible reason for that.

The Season-Enders Worth Knowing

These are the designations that change a team for the rest of the year, not the week.

How to Read a Questionable Tag Before You Bet It

Questionable is the only designation that carries real betting information, because it is the only one that is genuinely undecided.

Out and doubtful are already in the number.Active is already in the number.Questionable is the market guessing, and the guess gets revised on Friday and again ninety minutes before kick-off when the inactives are published.

Three practical rules from this week’s board.

First, watch the direction of the two numbers together.Baltimore’s spread shortened while the total rose: that combination says the market expects the better quarterback to play and the game to be higher scoring. One number moving on its own tells you much less than two moving in a consistent direction.

Second, a long questionable list is not the same as a bad injury report.Cleveland’s nine questionable players include six defenders, and the number has not moved. Books discount volume because most questionable players play. The names are what matter, not the count.

Pittsburgh -3.5 rather than the 39.5 under. We preferred the under on Tuesday. Nine questionable Browns, six of them defensive, with Pittsburgh’s key names all active, is the information that arrived afterwards, and it points at the side rather than the total.

And the under on 40.5 in Kansas City-Denver.Kelce questionable, Rice questionable, a team that scored three points last week, and the twenty-fourth-ranked scoring offence on the other side. The total has already fallen three from its open. It has further to go.
