The title race for the Brasileirão finally ended, with El Verdao crowning itself as champions of the Serie A. However, as our cover-up of this amazing league showed before, Palmeiras practically sealed the title several weeks ago. What is still in play is an amazing relegation battle.
Avaí, at home, lost to Bragantino by 2-1 and is almost relegated to Série B of the Brasileirão, mainly because their main rivals won in the same round (Juventude 0 – 1 Coritiba; Botafogo 0 – 2 Cuiabá). Atlético Goianiense also had a good chance of escaping the last four positions, but could not maintain the advantage against Santos and lost 2-3. Playing at home, Atlético turned the game around in the first half, but got tired in the end and got even more complicated in the Brasileirão.
The battle for international competition spots is also extremely exciting, as Corinthians got a little payback from Flamengo, but this may not be enough if they didn’t get results in the following weeks.
