After a couple of weeks off, with the Ryder Cup in between, action returns to the PGA Tour with the Sanderson Farms Championship, the second event of the FedEx Cup Fall.
This tournament is played at the Country Club of Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi. The course is a par 72, measuring 7,461 yards. Most of the world’s top players will be absent, some resting and others coming off the Ryder Cup. Danish golfer Rasmus Hojgaard is the only Ryder Cup participant in the field.
The most recent champion was Taiwan’s Kevin Yu, while the only players to have won twice are Americans Dwight Nevil, Brian Henninger, and Fred Funk, with Nevil being the only one to achieve this feat in consecutive years. In fact, the title has been decided in a playoff in each of the past three editions.

2025 Sanderson Farms Championship Top Contenders
In a tournament without many big names, one of the standout figures is Akshay Bhatia. The American is the highest-ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking, currently sitting at No. 34. This year, he has recorded four Top 10 finishes, with his best result being a third-place finish at THE PLAYERS Championship.
The 23-year-old golfer is chasing the third title of his career after winning the 2023 Barracuda Championship and the 2024 Valero Texas Open, both in playoffs, and considering the recent playoff trend at this event, that could be a plus.
Winner of this tournament in 2022, Mackenzie Hughes is another strong candidate for the trophy. The Canadian came close to his third career title earlier this year, losing the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic in a playoff, and also finishing third at the RBC Heritage. Just a couple of weeks ago, he placed seventh in the opening event of the FedEx Cup Fall, while in his last appearance at this course, in 2024, he finished eighth.
Rounding out this podium of contenders is Min Woo Lee. In 2025, he claimed his first title by winning the Texas Children’s Houston Open, edging out Scottie Scheffler and Gary Woodland by one stroke. Beyond that, Lee hasn’t posted another Top 10, though he has finished 11th, 12th, and 13th. One possible drawback is that his last tournament was the FedEx St. Jude Championship in mid-August, where he finished 68th, and he has never played this event before.
2025 Sanderson Farms Championship Outside picks
Sam Stevens hasn’t had much luck this year. The 29-year-old American has come close to securing the first title in his career, finishing runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open and the 3M Open, as well as third at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson.
Another player still chasing his first win is fellow American Jacob Bridgeman. In 2025, he recorded five Top 10 finishes, including second place at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, third at the Valspar Championship, fourth at the Truist Championship, and fifth at the John Deere Classic.
To wrap up, we include last year’s champion, Kevin Yu. The Taiwanese golfer has just one Tour PGA title to his name, but he has been close this year, finishing third at the RBC Canadian Open and fourth at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic.
